Inside Rory Rubin’s mission to redefine housing, sustainability, and community impact through modular construction
Construction is filled with inherited stories.
But the longer Rubin speaks about construction, the more the connection makes sense. “I really wanted to start my own company,” she says, reflecting on the moment her life shifted seven years ago. “I said, ‘I’m really interested in doing something that’s bigger than me and my purpose.’”
From families passing down trade knowledge, contractors raised on jobsites to leaders shaped inside generations of building culture. Rory Rubin, Founder and CEO of S.I Container Builds, did not come from that world. Before founding S.I. Container Builds, Rubin worked in clinical social work and consulting, helping people navigate trauma, instability, and crisis. Her career centered around people living through difficult realities and systems that often failed them. Today, she leads a modular manufacturing company building container-based developments across the United States.
That purpose is what drives the company today.
S.I. Container Builds now works across affordable housing, workforce developments, multifamily projects, wellness spaces, and community- focused initiatives.
At first glance, the transition feels unlikely.
