Rubin did not enter construction chasing industry trends.
The idea started with sustainability and curiosity.
“My dad was an architect. I was around construction, around building design,” she explains.
“We were about to become empty nesters and I felt the need to live more sustainably.”
As she explored sustainable living, she became fascinated by how other countries had already embraced and adapted shipping containers as residential and commercial structures. “I realized that people in other countries have been utilizing the shipping container for amazing residential and commercial properties,” Rubin says. “And so I fell in love.”
What stayed with her most was the waste.
“There are more than 26 plus million containers laying around in waste. We’re an import-driven country and we don’t typically send them back.” —Rory Rubin
