Leading While Still Having to Prove Yourself

As a woman leading within modular construction, manufacturing,

entrepreneurship, and development,

Rubin is candid about the realities of navigating male-dominated industries. “It’s not even past tense. It’s current,” she says when asked whether she still feels pressure to prove herself differently. “There are moments where I feel very alone.” What stands out most, however, is her self-awareness. about surrounding herself with people who bring expertise she does not claim to have herself. Rubin openly speaks “I’m comfortable admitting to not be the smartest person in the room at any given point,” she says. “And that’s fine.” That mindset has helped shape a company driven as much by relationships as production capacity. Construction has always been relationship-based, and Rubin believes partnerships remain one of the biggest reasons S.I. Container Builds continues to grow. “It’s the number one reason that we will continue to be successful — our partnerships and collaborations,” she says. 79

Material purchasing becomes more controlled. Timelines shorten. Scalability becomes more realistic. “In order to even make a dent in this terrible crisis, we have to embrace something that other countries have embraced for decades,” Rubin says.

Still, she avoids speaking about modular construction as though it is a miracle solution.

“We really do have a solution,” she says. “It’s not perfect. It doesn’t fit into every mold, but it really is a solution.”

That honesty matters.

Rubin does not sound like someone selling hype . She sounds like someone trying to solve real problems while pushing the industry to think differently about how housing gets delivered.
