C HALLENGING KIDS AND D ISCIPLINING M ETHODS At PBA Day School, we want to provide a safe and healthy atmosphere for every student to grow and flourish. The formation of character is at the core of our Mission. Our faculty cares and is attentive to the attitudes and behaviors of the students. We constantly seek to reinforce values, such as personal discipline, teamwork, confidence and commu- nity engagement. We strive to teach children that time and place can determine the appropriateness of behaviors. PBA believes that it is particularly important that the work of sup- porting students in this area of character development be done in partnership with parents; each supporting the other whenever possible. Behavior Expectations: Respect yourself: - Be honest and truthful- Give your PER- SONAL BEST in behavior- Monitor your behavior and accept responsibility for your actions Respect others: - Use courteous language- Listen to and acknowledge diverse opinions respectfully- Perform acts of courtesy and kindness- Arrive on time- Arrive ready to learn, with materials Respect your environment: - Stay in areas designated for students- Treat the building, grounds, furniture, equipment, books and supplies with care- Take responsibility for clean- ing up after yourself Behavioral expectations based on these and other values are clearly articulated and reinforced by faculty at every op- portunity. The faculty approaches the formation of character with an educational mentality. They first teach desired val- ues and behavior; provide positive reinforcement when stu- dents model appropriate behaviors balanced alongside bringing awareness to when behaviors are not aligned with expectations; and lastly, to have the student sit out of an ac- tivity if necessary, write a reflection and through discussion offer them the opportunity to rejoin the group as a positive contributor. perform honors all musical traditions and genres. We pro- mote social equity by providing needs based scholarships. Awell-rounded, happy child can be expected from PBA camps. At the conclusion of our camps we host a perform- ance for parents to attend. Many parents commend our staff as they witness their child fully engaged and bursting with pride in all they have accomplished. PBA offers week-long summer camps for various age and experience levels. All provide a safe, nurturing environ- ment to build relationships, learn personal responsibility, de- velop musical skills, and enjoy the outdoors. This is a great way to keep choristers mentally, physically, and artistically engaged during school breaks, getting them excited about the arts and going back to school. Led by choir alumni coun- selors and PBA’s world-class staff, choristers enjoy as much fun and learning, in one week, as they would experience in two months of regular rehearsals! PBAoffers separate camps for boys and girls as our ensembles train and perform sepa- rately. It is our policy to defer gender determination to the chorister. Pacific Boychoir Academy’s Day Camp provides a fun, safe, educational environment for boys ages 5-10 years and a separate Day Camp for girls ages 8-13 to play, build rela- tionships, learn to collaborate and develop their musical, and social skills. Guided by PBA’s highly qualified staff and alumni counselors, choristers learn with hands-on Orff in- struments, Kodaly games and activities, music theory, and vocal coaching. The camp also includes team-building games and excit- ing off-site adventures, including swimming, hiking, bowl- ing, and more!
