If you’ve ever had to deal with a serious matter in another state, you’re probably aware of how much work it can be. We’re happy we were able to reduce that burden for a recent out-of-state client who was visiting California in his RV when he was rear-ended by a big rig. The accident left the RV looking like an accordion. The defense tried to argue that the RV absorbed most of the impact of the accident and that the client had preexisting conditions, but in reality, our client suffered back injuries as a result of the crash and was entitled to fair compensation. Our client initially filed a claim with a lawyer in his home state but was then referred to us because the collision occurred here. When we received the case, we saw that the referring attorney had already started negotiating with the insurance adjuster for compensation lower than the policy limit, which we felt was not adequate to cover our client’s injuries and subsequent medical treatment. We pushed for what we knew was fair for our client while preparing to take the case to trial if necessary. Our efforts paid off when the insurance company agreed to settle for the policy limit of almost $1 million. We were happy to work with this wonderful client and help him get fair compensation to address his injuries and aid in his recovery. In addition, we paid a referral fee of $65,000 to the out-of-state attorney who referred this client to us.
