I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the transition into the new season at ORPS. With the new Board officially taking office on March 18, we've hit the ground running, addressing various issues. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to our new board members, Sue Olsen and Gary Oedekerk. We are grateful for their willingness to take on leadership roles within our community. Before we delve into current matters, I'd like to take a moment to express our sincere appreciation to John Boudin for his dedicated six years of service to our community, with a special mention of his leadership as president in recent years. John's contributions have enriched our lives at ORPS, enhancing our enjoyment of the diverse entertainment and events hosted at our Resort. Reflecting on the 2023 - 24 season, I'm delighted to report that it has been a resounding success. Our Lifestyle team has kept us engaged and entertained throughout, while our maintenance and landscaping teams have once again transformed ORPS into a vibrant oasis amidst the desert landscape. We are immensely grateful for their hard work and dedication. As we transition into the new season, we have encountered a concerning issue regarding an unusual odor in the air. Many of you have reached out to both the City and David Bernard, COO of CC Industry, regarding this matter, and we've received assurances that steps are being taken to address it promptly. Rest assured, we are actively monitoring the situation and will keep you updated on any developments. On the financial front, I'm pleased to report that our revenue continues to exceed expenses, keeping us on budget for the year. The finance committee will be collaborating with management in the coming weeks to formulate recommendations for the 2024 - 25 budget, ensuring our fiscal responsibility moving forward. In terms of infrastructure changes, Spectrum has informed us of their decision to discontinue the old - style cable TV service, necessitating a transition to internet based alternatives. The Cost Savings Ad Hoc Committee has evaluated various options, and owners have provided valuable feedback through a recent survey. The Board will carefully review this feedback alongside any updates from Spectrum before reaching a decision. Looking ahead, our monthly board meetings will continue via Zoom from April to October. I encourage all members to participate and utilize the open forum section to raise any concerns or issues. Additionally, our management team is finalizing a list of summer projects, which will be presented for board review at our April meeting. IN THE WEEKS BEFORE YOU LEAVE: • Buy any supplies you might need, see shopping list below • Treat lot for insects • Let the mailroom know your dates - give them forwarding labels • Test the operation of your slides • Lube slide seals and jacks • Oil cabinetry and woodwork, inside and out • Cancel or place holds on internet and TV • Make sure lead acid batteries have plenty of water • Treat any rubber items with 303 or equivalent dressing • Check out all your outdoor covers, make sure they still work IN THE DAYS BEFORE YOU LEAVE: • Arrange for golf car storage, or cover it and deal with tires and batteries yourself • Pack or donate all food, cleaners and perishables • Cover any items you will leave outside • Flush water heater - check anode • Black and gray water tanks - flush and chemically treat • Take batteries out of clocks, remotes, etc THE DAY YOU LEAVE: • Store sewer hoses, power cords, water hoses inside • Put water filters and softeners inside • Shut off all propane, and loosen or remove hoses, including FP and BBQ hoses • Plug all inside drains with Saran wrap, including the toilet • Turn off and drain hot water tank • Tape over the exhaust for furnace, water heater, and kitchen and dryer vents • Empty, clean, and disinfect refer, leave doors open • Leave all interior door and cabinets open for air circulation • All slides should be in if possible • Turn off main battery switch • Cover windows with foil to keep heat out • Cover inside furniture with dust sheets • Put Bounce dryer sheets inside and out, they deter mice and insects • Double bag three 32 gallon garbage cans, fill with water
It is hard to believe that the 2023 - 24 winter season at ORPS is coming to an end. The committee and I have been able to get to know more people at ORPS and help them make their lot uniquely theirs. This is a great Resort and we should all be proud of the efforts of many that make it so great. As I have stated multiple times if you are contemplating making any improvements to your lot be sure to determine whether or not you need a permit. If you do remember that work cannot start before the permit has been approved by the A&A Committee. If you have any questions about the process, please stop by the front office and talk to Julia our A&A Coordinator. The A&A Committee will be meeting throughout the summer on a monthly basis. Meetings to approve permits will be done once a month via Zoom starting in May with the last summer meeting in October. The committee will attempt to do meetings the 2 nd week of the month on a Wednesday but specific times will be determined prior to each meeting. Due to vacations, summer meetings are not necessarily at a consistent time but will be announced ahead of time. Permits need to be submitted to the A&A coordinator five business days prior to the next meeting to be reviewed at the meeting. Owners will have the opportunity to ask the committee questions on the Zoom meeting. I want to thank the volunteers who donate their time to serve on the committee and help you with your projects. Current committee members include Monica Car, Barb Lidstrom, Herb Nyquist, Michele Power, Janet Ream and Skip Wimer. We continue to look for volunteers to join us - if you are interested, please fill out a Committee Interest Form which is available at the Main Office. This season has blown right by. As you read this, the Farewell Tournament will have been played. And Tuesday Scramble and Thursday Best Ball will go on until Tuesday, April 9. It was a long weekend for determining the Club Championship. It started with windy conditions and ended with the longest this course has ever been. Thanks to Lifestyles for being so cooperative and a pack of volunteers who made it a successful weekend. Lori Flood and Jane Dube selling 50/50 and drinks, Dave and Carol Thomson taking care of the food along with Paul Pollock who was also moving the grill, moving and setting up tables with Christine Anderson, and Mike Delaney for his muscles and setting up the pop up tent that Lori Flood borrowed. And then there was Janis Pollock who I think wants to become the assistant golf coordinator. She had the groupings sheet and had a watchful eye on who was supposed to be on the tee. All in all, thanks to all the volunteers for getting this show produced. I should also mention the rest of the committee, the Marshals, and Tim for their efforts in making this year a pleasant experience for the golfing community. Welcome to the inaugural season of PAWS at! Our pets have become an integral part of the ORPS family, despite the occasional challenges. Here ’ s what ’ s been happening: 1. Dog Parks : In their second year, the ORPS dog parks continue to be a hub of joy and camaraderie. It ’ s not just a place for dogs; it ’ s where neighbors connect. 2. Pet Spirit : From the Western Week Pet Parade to the CanAm Parade, our pets have strutted their stuff. Top costume winners also had donations made in their name to the Palm Springs Animal Shelter. 3. Murder Mystery Night : Sleuths solved the fictional crime, and funds from ticket sales supported PAWS. This has helped us take a big step forward to funding a Pet Wash Station. 4. Pet Wash Station : We ’ re working toward having a pet wash station at ORPS. Your donations can make it happen! It ’ s not too late to donate. 5. Stay connected with us on Facebook: “ PAWS at ORPS. ” Remember, every wag, purr, and chirp adds love to our paradise. VOLUNTEERS OF THE YEAR Gary Oedekerk and Steve Flood were recognized this year as ORPS Pickleball ’ s Volunteers of the Year. Not only have they put in endless committee hours, they have shown great leadership and have made significant contributions to “ skills and drills ” and “ court maintenance ” respectively.

This tournament was once again a huge success and so much fun! There were 142 participants; drawing their partners randomly within their skill level. It was fabulous watching people playing together – often for the first time! The results of the tournament will be posted in the November, 2024 Oracle.

The Serve - vivors were the winners of our Team Tennis League.
In a tie for second were Court Crushers and Break Point. In fourth place was Net Worth. Thanks to Bud Krahn, Larry Carletta, Brian Goltz, and Greg Farmer for putting the teams together and being great captains.

The Tennis Committee is excited to have Julie Farmer as our next Chair, Carol Connell as Treasurer, and Vicki Condon as Communications Coordinator. We appreciate them stepping up to keep our tennis community thriving. Thanks to Robin Polson, Katy Kupecz, and Cindy Stoneback for their time on the committee. Our CVSTL team , Coachella Valley Senior Tennis League, is also known as the Renegades. They played Sun City Shadow Hills on March 8th. It was truly a battle down to the last serve. Three of the four matches went to a 3rd set tiebreak, and the 4th match went to a tiebreak on each of their 2 sets. It doesn ’ t get any closer than that. Unfortunately, they came up 1 set short of the win. Bud Krahn and Doug Denham are co - captains of this team. Their goal is to have fun and drink beer. They appreciate all the support the community has given them this year.
Robin Polson is the team captain. After 7 weeks of play, the ORPS team is tied for 4th place in their division. The last match and the playoffs were the last week of March, after the cutoff for this article.
The Tennis Committee Mixer Coordinator is Debi Vodvarka. She and her husband Dan have been coming to ORPS for 9 years and are both avid tennis players. Thanks Debi for coordinating the fun Mixers we ’ ve had this season.
This season's last Fritters and Fun was held March 2nd and Dingles was played. Following the very eventful tennis games, 5 winners got their entry fee back.
The tennis community had an end - of - season gathering under the pergola on Monday, March 11th. It was a great turnout and a perfect way to share some time with tennis friends.

Your kindness is appreciated. Besides the much - needed cash toward Veterinary Spay — Neuter services, we supported scholarships, brought paint, basketballs, and school supplies for the young people, and purchased more necessities. Our Annual on - site Rally will included three RV seminars, Corn Hole, Golf, Two Happy Hours, Game nights, Pickle - ball, catered dinner and Rally Awards and special guest, Bob Golk, Western Region FMCA president presented our 30 year certificate and $150 gift. The Ukulele Crew season recap
Another awesome season for The Ukulele Crew. The strummers performed at ten events including twice at VillageFest in downtown Palm Springs and at The Palms at La Quinta, Assisted Living and Memory care facility. New members were welcomed throughout the season and goodbyes were said to several members who had been with the group for many years. New songs were added to the playlist and players worked on challenging strumming techniques. Several players stepped up to do Take Over solos and The Crew was joined by singers, lead by Janice Henry, who elevated the songs with their good voices and harmonies. New players and singers are invited to join the 2024 - 2025 season in November. The Crew meets every Saturday, 1:00 - 2:00 for beginners, who will play three songs by the end of their first one - hour lesson. After that session, All - Play meets for all levels to practice the season ’ s playlists at 2:00 - 4:00. Wednesday practices are for all levels at 2:00 - 4:00. New players can purchase on Amazon, The Daily Ukulele Songbook, 365 Songs for Better Living by Jim Beloff. It ’ s about $30. Buy either the digital edition or the large format print edition. The Ladies Charity Luncheon on March 5th was a great success, enjoyed by all. A huge thank you to our speakers and our gentlemen servers. Due to the kindness and generosity of the ORPS community we were again able to donate a total of $10,000 and a playpen full of much needed supplies to Shelter From the Storm. Way to go ORPS!
Our spotlight this month is on three of our longstanding members who are sadly leaving us for new adventures. • 2006 is the year Laurel and Roger Ankerstein from Leduc, Alberta, bought in ORPS. Laurel started quilting in high school home economics where she made 6 inch blocks backed with a woolen blanket, which she still has! Sadly Roger passed away in 2018 and is missed by all. • 2013 is when Joan and Ron Sherwood from Victoria, B.C., first arrived in ORPS. Joan started quilting in 2006 but was unaware of the quilting group until 2015 when a kind member invited her to the room where she became hooked by the friendly enthusiastic sewers. • 2013 is also the year Ev and Alec Bayes from Airdrie, Alberta first came to ORPS, buying their lot in 2015. Ev started coming to the sewing room in the fall of 2016 and says she has enjoyed all those who have passed through the room. A wonderful bunch of ladies. You all will be missed. As the season comes to a close the ORPS Quilters and Sewers are busy with our community service endeavors working on our raffle quilts for next season. If you think you might enjoy being part of such endeavors, please join us in the West Room in El Saguaro or contact us via email at orpsquilters@gmail.com. We would love to show you what we do. We are creative and provide inspiration for each other. All levels of expertise are welcome! Our members make so many donatable quilt items annually for The Shelter From The Storm. The 2nd Annual 3 - 2 - 1 Mini Triathlon was a huge success with 55 participants, which is double the number from last year! General Manager, Ed Vitrano, remarked, "The obvious theme of this year ’ s Tri was 'Youth is Served!' For example, the 1st place time of last year would have been 6th this year." Congratulations to Team JimBob for achieving the best time yet of 23.39. Also, congratulations to Ridge Baker for the best time in the Men's category at 25.00, and to Allie Lavoie for the best time in the Women's category at 26.35!
