diversify into folding cartons, explained Jeff Mercier, BOPI president. “We’ve been researching the folding carton market and feel it is a perfect fit for our workflow,” he said. “After producing some short run folding carton work on both pieces of equipment, we feel we’re ready to make the move into more folding carton orders. We see it as a growth area in the near future, mostly to brand new cus- tomers as well as a few existing customers.” Jeff Fritzen, BOPI Executive Vice President, said they envision being a supplier to the trade as well. “There are printers that encounter opportunities that they can’t man- age, and this would enable us to work within the trade as well as providing finishing capabilities for their excess work for those who don’t have this equipment to do this type of work,” Fritzen said.
Corner Brook, Newfoundland based Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Ltd. announced that, under an agreement with the government of Newfoundland and Labrador, it will sell excess green energy from its Deer Lake Power assets to Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro. The agreement, which benefits both entities, will better position CBPP to face increasingly challenging conditions in the global newsprint market. Furthermore, a Kruger dedicated task force will work to identify viable projects to diversify CBPP’s production in the field of wood-based bioproducts. The goal is to add revenue sources to make operations more sustainable in the long term, while also unlocking Newfoundland and Labrador’s high forest potential. Visit kruger.com .
