In general, when we talk about wellness travel, people think of massages, meditation, and yoga at beautiful locations that make us forget about our daily worries. If you are unsure about what works best for you, it may be beneficial to choose a resort that offers all of the above experiences so that you have as many options as possible. Specifically at Regent Phu Quoc, we have a lifestyle consultation session where our guests can discuss anything related to lifestyle and health with our experts. The wellness expert will cover the major aspects of health, such as the physical, mental, and social dimensions. Through this conversation, our guests may gain a better understanding of themselves and establish both short- and long-term goals. This is our method to help our guests achieve the best possible experience on their wellness travel journey. For you personally, what do you look for in a retreat? I’m very focused on balancing the physical, mental, and emotional dimensions. We are bombarded by negative news every day. A negative mind can spiral and cause more harm to the body than we expect. For this reason, at Regent Phu Quoc, I recently incorporated the “7 Crystals Healing Session” into our spa and wellbeing program. The 7 Crystals Healing Session is a form of energy healing that focuses on channeling energy into the seven chakras. Chakras are believed to be located along the spine and are seen as spinning
wheels through which life energy flows. Hence, a harmonious energy flow by opening the chakras is believed to result in overall wellbeing. The idea of chakras originated in India between 1500 and 500 BC in the oldest texts called the Vedas. We are learning more about the benefits of chakra balancing and how it may play an important role in overall wellbeing. What does an energy healing session look like? We use seven different precious stones for the seven chakras: amethyst, mountain crystal, chalcedony, rose quartz, calcite, carnelian, and red jasper. Each crystal brings about different benefits. Some have healing properties at a psychic level, while others can alleviate stress, anxiety, and negative emotions, promoting positivity. Each crystal will be placed along the corresponding chakra. The crystals are chosen to have vibrational frequencies that can harmonize specific energies in the body. Energy stone placement will be accompanied by the vibrations of Tibetan singing bowls and specific chants pertaining to each chakra. The experience will also include a full body massage targeting the energy channels. You can think of it as a massage and meditative session all in one. How would you suggest guests structure their treatment? I would advise getting multiple treatments, as one session would not be enough to clear deep blockages in the energy flow. Rather
than scheduling back-to-back sessions, a gap of one day would be ideal for a follow-up session. Many guests come to us for the weekend, starting on Friday and ending on Sunday. I would suggest a three-day program as follows. On the first day, after your arrival, enroll in the 7 Crystals Healing Session to help you start your wellness weekend. The Tibetan singing bowl produces binaural beats that encourage brain waves to help you feel relaxed. On the second day, harness the full power of nature around the island with outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, or water sports. Regent Phu Quoc is surrounded by pristine waters and mountains, with plenty of hiking trails to choose from. On the third day, you may choose to schedule another 7 Crystals Healing Session or a private wellness session tailored specifically to your needs, as discussed and assessed during the lifestyle consultation. I highly recommend the hiking on the second day, as it can be considered nature therapy. The Japanese call walking in nature “forest bathing”, and it has been shown to do wonders for your health. However, for those who wish for a more relaxing second day, Regent Phu Quoc has a Full-Day Spa Program with sauna, bath, body scrub and wrap, massage, facial, manicure and pedicure, along with refreshments and a healthy lunch.
Dr. Tomson, what are you thoughts on the latest trends of wellness travel? There are many trends emerging in the wellness travel industry. Some are embracing nature therapy fully. Others discuss the benefits of mental health awareness at all ages, where adult-only health retreats that force parents to leave their children behind are starting to recede, giving space to family getaways that still encapsulate similar benefits. Some places even offer longevity retreats where you immerse yourself in the habits of local people, often at Blue Zones, to understand their key to a long and happy life. These trends show that wellness is no longer a one-dimensional concept. Instead, the industry is adapting to the needs of individuals more than ever. At the end of the day, wellness encompasses the well-being of both the body and the mind, and everyone requires a program that meets their specific needs. What should travellers consider when choosing wellness programs? What each of us looks for in a wellness retreat differs from person to person. I believe it is best to take a minute to think about what you are trying to achieve. Is it to digital detox and step away from being overstimulated by social media? Is it to be more physically active? Or simply to sleep better and rejuvenate the mind? Once you find your personal goals, you will be able to choose the retreat that works for you.
Thank you Dr. Tomson for sharing your insights.
