Hari Raya Aidilfitri, also known as Eid al-Fitr, is a special time for Muslims around the world — a day of joy, forgiveness, and togetherness. After a month of fasting during Ramadan, families come together to celebrate with open houses, vibrant clothing, and tables overflowing with delicious food. In Singapore and Malaysia, Hari Raya is marked by heartfelt greetings of “Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir dan Batin”, symbolizing the spirit of forgiveness and fresh beginnings. Homes are beautifully decorated and the air fills with the aroma of traditional dishes lovingly prepared to welcome guests. Spice Up Your Hari Raya with This Exciting Fusion Recipe

This year, create unforgettable memories with these three classic recipes — perfect for sharing with family and friends.

SAMBAL GORENG (VEGAN) A Spicy, Savoury Classic Sambal Goreng is a staple during Hari Raya, offering a delightful blend of spice and sweetness. This vegan version is rich in flavour and pairs beautifully with rice or ketupat.

Heat oil in a pan and fry tempeh and tofu until golden brown. Set aside. 2. In the same pan, sauté sambal paste for 2-3 minutes until fragrant. 3. Add green beans and stir-fry briefly before returning the tempeh and tofu to the pan. 4. Pour in sweet soy sauce, season with salt, and cook for another 2-3 minutes. 5. Serve hot with rice or ketupat for a satisfying burst of flavour.

INGREDIENTS: • 300g cabbage (shredded) • 200g carrots (sliced) • 200g green beans (cut into 3cm pieces) • 4 tofu puffs (quartered) • 2 cups coconut milk • 1 cup water

• 2 tbsp curry powder • 2 tbsp oil • 2 cloves garlic (minced) • 1 onion (sliced) • Salt to taste • Rice cakes (lontong), sliced

METHOD: 1. Heat oil in a pot and sauté garlic and onions until fragrant. 2. Add curry powder and stir for a minute before pouring in coconut milk and water. 3. Bring to a gentle simmer, then add cabbage, carrots, and green beans. 4. Stir in tofu puffs and cook until vegetables are tender. 5. Season with salt, and serve warm with sliced rice cakes for a comforting and satisfying meal.

AYAM MASAK MERAH A Spicy Showstopper

This iconic Hari Raya dish is known for its rich, spicy tomato sauce and tender chicken. Its vibrant red colour symbolizes the warmth and festivity of the season.

INGREDIENTS: • 1kg chicken drumsticks or thighs • 3 tbsp oil • 1 large onion (sliced) • 3 cloves garlic (minced) • 4 tbsp chili paste

• 4 large tomatoes (blended) • 3 tbsp tomato ketchup

• 2 tbsp sugar • Salt to taste

METHOD: 1. Marinate chicken with salt and fry in oil until golden brown. 2. In the same pan, sauté onions and garlic until fragrant. 3. Add chili paste, cook for 2-3 minutes, then stir in blended tomatoes and ketchup. 4. Let it simmer for 5 minutes before adding sugar and salt. 5. Return the fried chicken to the pan, coat well in the sauce, and cook for another 10 minutes. 6. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot.

Bringing It All Together During Hari Raya, food is more than just nourishment — it’s a symbol of love, gratitude, and tradition. As you gather with loved ones, let these dishes add warmth and flavour to your celebrations. Pair them with fragrant rice, ketupat, or crispy keropok for a complete feast. From our kitchen to yours, Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri! May this festive season bring you peace, prosperity, and countless joyful moments.
