TELEVISION COMMERCIAL ICONS

And now a word from our sponsors…

Campbell’s Soup Kids cherubic stop-motion ceramic puppet heads each with applied rigid hairpieces (all bottom center) peg-registered to be interchanged in quick succession to give the appearance of talking lips—marked within with their sound or expressions: “A2,” “N,” “Frown 2,” and “Sip 1.” The Campbell kids date back to the early 1900s and their use on trolley car advertisements, and the construction of these particular puppets suggest they were made for television production circa 1950s. Campbell’s Soup was a lifelong sponsor of the television program Lassie , which debuted in 1954, the same year the condensed soup company went public. Restoration by Disney artist Chris Koon.
