ICONIC COMMERCIALS: WHEN THE PILLSBURY DOUGH BOY FLIES INTO FRAME
“Nothin’ says lovin’ like something from the oven”
Pillsbury Doughboy para ffi n wax morphing puppets made for commercial production circa late-1960s and early-1970s: a beige oval dough ball; one with slight torso shape & arm protrusions; a taller dough ball with forming arms, head, & hat (all middle left & center); to the fully refined Pop’n Fresh doughboy (middle right) with piercing blue eyes and a tall chef hat with “Pillsbury” dot logo on front. Noteworthy, the puppet still retains fine metal loops on upper arms for the iconic shots when the Dough Boy “flies” into frame; accompanied by a carved long tube of pastry dough (bottom right) with a hand-made “Butterscotch Nut Cookies” label for Pillsbury pastry dough commercials of the era.
