CURATOR’S NOTE: “I regularly invite TV stars to provide their signature wares in exchange for their careful conservation, and the fastest reply I ever received came from Donald Trump. He would send an ultra-fine suit by the Italian designer Brioni (their bespoke suits now start at $10,000!). However, oddly, it was accompanied by a much older pair of black leather wingtip shoes. Naturally, I wasn't going to contact his o ffi ce to inquire about the disparity in their quality and condition, but it confused me. I would learn that the elegant suit h abe r da s h e r B r i on i s upp l i ed Th e Apprentice production company with their star’s suits (for promotional purposes), but Mr. Trump wore his own shoes to set. Pe r h ap s h e op t ed t o we a r mo r e comfortable shoes on days they could not be seen under a conference room table. Similarly, interviewer Larry King famously wore old jeans under his interview desk, for comfort and humility.” — James Comisar
