leave the hearer’s mind satisfied. Especially if there is a lesson to be taught, the child must feel so at rest as to desire to think back over the story a£ain. He then does his own moralizing and the truth is uncon sciously applied. In conclusion, the importance o f telling Bible stories to children can scarcely be over-emphasized. Consider the opportu nities it affords. Every Sunday School teacher, mother and children’s worker should know how to do it well. The sim plicity o f methods in cultivation o f the art should encourage many to become inter ested. The children need to be told not only o f the Old Testament heroes but' of Christ’s birth, o f His life, His death and His resurrection in an interesting, attrac tive, yet reverent and impressive way. to be cautioned about assuming a sancti monious air while telling a religious story. When a feeling o f awe is communicated to a child, he will learn, without knowing why; to dread that kind o f a story. Tell it reverently, but throw yourself whole heartedly into it. Voice-training and careful enunciation add much to the effectiveness of any story. There is a mistaken idea that loudness accompanies animation. A quiet, clear, modulated voice should be cultivated. Affectation o f voice or manner is the worst enemy to effective story-telling and should be avoided, especially in Bible story-telling. A well-formed story has one, and only one, climax—a culmination o f all its action. Everything in it should move forward clearly and concisely toward the climax. When it is reached, stop. Never moralize or explain at the end, but the story must -------------- O “ General Carranza is bitterly opposed to the Roman Catholic Church, which has held sway in his country for three centuries.
