THE EXTENSION DEPARTMENT Geo. W. Hunter, Representative
O NE month in Seattle (and a little more) and it has been a busy on e! Plans are outlined for the work here which will, if developed, make a valuable auxiliary work, and a magnificent feeder for the Institute. As outlined, we are planning to open with class-work at the First Presbyterian Church, with a corps o f seven teachers. It is outlined now to cover the dispensational setting o f the Bible and the doctrinal teaching, with classes for personal work, evangelistic teaching, chapter summary, and one class in English, if the right teacher can be secured. Right now we are gathering people in homes all over' the. city and seeking to incite in them a desire for definite study ; this we are doing quite successfully. If not in large numbers in any one home, we are more than making up for the large numbers by having a large number of classes. The city will be pretty well cov ered with small classes by the time you read* this article, and in each instance we are seeking to get the people to really desire to know. The first thing we propose doing is to have a ten-day institute in the church, with all o f the members o f these several classes coming' for three classes a day, accompan ied by as many others as they can persuade to come. Following this we are planning a prophetic conference, with some o f the out side men such as Dr. A. C. Gaebelein, of New Y ork; Dri James M. Gray o f the Moody Institute o f Chicago; and o f course we shall hope to include in this list our own Dr. Torrey and Dr. Evans. For the past several years, from twenty
REV. GEO. W. HUNTER to thirty Bible classes have been conducted in -the church each week, along dispensa tional, doctrinal, expository and topical lines. W e have added to this list twelve or fifteen more, in the several sections of the city, and will double the number before the summer is over. The plans at present cover in a practical way the fundamental teachings o f the Bible, and as they are worked out, we shall have a splendid foun dation for the proposed enlarged work later in the fall. It is with regret that I have been obliged to give Up the' proposed work for the pris oners at McNeil’s Island Fédéral Prison, bn account ' o f the confliction o f time between that which I could give and that which could be given me by the Warden, only Sunday afternoon being available, and this would consume all day to get there and back. I felt the day was too valu able for the interests o f the Bible Institute to tie it up even with this important call. Unless some other way is found, whereby
