On visiting the third-class passengérs’ quarters, he found that a great opportunity presented itself to reach them with the Gospel. They were Chinese, and from the way they looked as they read the Gospel message in their own language, one cannot be far wrong in saying that after their sojourn here in this land, they were about to go back to their own country without having heard the message o f the Son of God, as hundreds o f thousands o f others have done before. These things put a great sorrow in the heart and impressed me >as never before, with the great, unspeakable need and the great opportunity. The prayer in my heart now is that our Lord Jesus may burden other hearts in like manner and to pray George W". Hunter, superintendent of extension work under the Bible Institute o f Los Angeles, from San Francisco to Seattle, has opened to the Institute a vastly broadened field o f usefulness. The cordial reception accorded this institution and its representative by the press and peo­ ple o f Seattle, has been most gratifying. The extension work is being fostered by the First Presbyterian Church o f Seattle, under the aggressive leadership o f Dr. Mark Matthews,' well known throughout the world as a, great preacher and former Moderator o f the Presbyterian General Assembly. His congregation, which is the largest on the Pacific Coast and is one o f the most aggressive missionary organiza­ tions anywhere, passed the following res­ olutions, upon the arrival o f Mr. Hunter: “That the institutional Bible work of

The first individual the Lord used the worker to help, was a young native o f Guam, who was a passenger on board a sailing vessel and for some reason was not allowed to land here. He was alone in his little, cabin and was pointed out as being “ religious,” by one o f the other men. He was a Catholic and depended on the priest to forgive his sin- The way was shown him is plain as possible and he found full assurance o f salvation. Pray very much for this place that God may have His way and that His will may be accomplished. this congregation shall be connected with and considered a part o f the work being done by the Bible Institute o f Los Angeles; that we offer the said school every encour­ agement, sympathy and moral assistance possible ; that we urge pupils o f this church and community who contemplate attending a Bible school to attend the Bible Institute o f Los Angeles; that the doctrinal state­ ment o f the said Bible Institute be and the same is hereby incorporated and adopted as the doctrinal statement o f the Bible work being done by this church.” The Seattle Daily Times o f July 15, 1916, gives further information concerning the proposed development o f the work in that city, as follows : “ Definite plans for thé opening o f a Bible institute in Seattle are being laid by Dr. Mark A.
