Bible classes are now being established in various parts o f the city, under auspices o f this great church, these classes being intended to prepare for the work o f the institute which is to come later. “ The institute will be an auxiliary o f the Bible Institute o f Los Angeles, o f which Dr. R. A. Torrey, the well known evan­ gelist and Bible student, is the head. George W . Hunter, superintendent o f extension work o f the Bible Institute at Los Angeles, is now in Seattle to assist in establishing the Seattle branch o f the work. “ The purpose o f the institute is to give instruction in the fundamental teachings of the Bible. All persons desirous o f acquir­ ing a deeper insight into the Bible, whether they are affiliated with Any church or not, are invited to attend the institute and to join one o f the Bible classes now being formed in various sections o f the city. “ The faculty o f this institute will include several able Bible teachers who already are laying plans for the opening o f the work, among them being Rev. F. L. Forbes, D. D .; Rev. John A. Rodgers; Rev. Robert W il- ‘P 'V A N G E L IS T George P. Wicker who, accompanied by his wife, is represent­ ing the Christian Endeavor Society o f the Church o f the Open Door in the neglected fields o f California, writes encouragingly from Mendocino. He says a Sunday school has been organ­ ized in the schoolhouse, the first held there in nine years, and sends the accompanying picture. His report for the two months he and Mrs. Wicker have been in the field in Lake and Mendocino counties, shows the following: Traveled 1327 miles; meetings held, 39; homes visited, 8 8 ; Sunday schools organized, 4; professed conversion, 25;

Hunter, extention superinten­ dent for the Bible Institute o f Los Ange­ les.” Dr. Matthews writes to Superintendent Horton: “ I feel that we have established a far-reaching work, and under the prov­ idence o f pod, I pray is going to work great things for God and for our doctrinal statement and for the teaching o f the Bible. The workers will coach, prepare and secure pupils for the Bible Institute o f Los Angeles. Again I express my profound gratitude to Almighty God for this spirit­ ual leadership. In re correspondence on personal work, I have read and studied it carefully. I most heartily endorse it and doubt seriously if a single question could be added to it. As soon as it is published send me some copies.” Thus it will be seen that the influence o f the Bible Institute o f Los Angeles is reach­ ing out, and calls louder and louder for additional funds, in order that the exten­ sion work may not languish. W e appeal to lovers o f the Whole Bible to take this work upon their hearts. delivered nine addresses before churches, concerning the Bible Institute. In speaking o f his report, he says: “This report does not tell much o f the real work accomplished. Many cold or luke-worm Christians have been blessed through the meetings and personal inter­ views. One woman who tried to discour­ age us from holding meetings, is out today trying to win the whole community for the Master; another, who has been a careless Christian for twenty-five years, is superin­ tendent o f one o f the Sunday schools we have organized; still another is a profes­ sional man, who says his life has been
