N ourish your Skin

S kin too dry? Overheated rooms and cold, biting winds take their toll in winter. Here’s how to reclaim that plumpness and bloom. 1 Take shorter showers and adjust the tap to lukewarm: Most people shower for around 12-15 minutes, which is twice as long as necessary. Water that is too hot will strip the skin of natural oils. 2 Eat to feed your skin from within: No amount of creams or cosmetic procedures can beautify your skin as much as a nutritious diet, with an emphasis on foods containing skin- supportive ingredients, like antioxidants to counter free radicals and signs of ageing and good fats to repair skin tissue.

3 Exercise is important: Apart from warming you up and keeping you fit, it speeds the circulation of oxygen- rich blood to your skin’s surface, bestowing a healthy glow. Exercise also boosts production of new cells, tones your digestive organs and ensures regular elimination of toxins. 4 Cleanse and tone gently: Cleansing and caring for your skin does not mean treating it roughly. Do not use strongly scented soaps or abrasive scrubs, brushes and masks, and avoid any products with artificial fragrances and preservatives, as they can provoke allergic reactions, including itchiness and dryness. Choose a mild and gentle cleanser, and apply it with fingertips, massaging in small circles out from the nose towards the hairline, ears and chin, and down your throat to your décolletage. Rinse off carefully with warm water, and pat dry with a soft towel.

Use a toner that is alcohol-free, as alcohol removes the skin’s natural oils. 5 Moisturise with love: The best time to apply moisturiser to your face and body is after your shower, while the skin is still a little damp, because this helps to lock in the moisture remaining from the water. Pat product onto face and gently stroke it in with fingertips. When applying it to the more delicate skin on and under the eyes, use the tips of the fingers and lightly tap it in, to avoid pulling or dragging. At Go Vita we are big fans of Weleda Skin Food, a range which was first formulated in 1926 and has been deservedly famous ever since.
