Student Experiences
Grandview teachers approach curriculum through a STEM lens, meaning we integrate science, technology, engineering and mathematics into all of our content areas. Students explore hands-on learning, relating what they learn to real world experiences and occupations. Grandview is also a CATCH school, Coordinated Approach to Child Health. Our students learn about healthy lifestyle choices that will last a lifetime. Learning doesn’t stop with the end of the school day. Choir, Cooking Club, Lego Club, Vex IQ Robotics, and Running Club are some of the extended learning opportunities available to our students.
Grandview students take field trips to wonderful places around Monroe County. Our first grade visits Crane Naval Base and become engineers in training. Fifth grade students travel to Hoosier Hills Career Center and work side-by-side with high school students to construct bird houses. Students explore the outdoors and learn about the environment with field trips to Bradford Woods, Leonard Springs, Griffy Lake, McCormick’s Creek State Park and Karst Farm Park. With trips to the Indiana University Musical Arts Center, students get to experience the ballet, opera, jazz, concert band, and orchestra. Every year we invite Lotus Festival guest performers from around the world to expose our students to different cultures through music. Our IU partnership continues with the IU school of Education, Department of Astronomy, IU Athletics, and the IU Maurer School of Law. Indiana University students in these areas provide our Grandview students with enriching activities that expose them to careers that might interest them in the future.
