Community Partnership

Student Experiences

Summit Elementary’s faculty strives to provide a rich and thorough examination of grade level standards through classroom activities. To enhance these opportunities, Summit has a STEM Lab and MakerSpace. Faculty use these areas to enhance their instruction and student learning opportunities. Additionally, Summit is a Dual Language Spanish Immersion school. Half of Summit Elementary’s student body will eventually be enrolled in our Dual Language program. Students in this program receive half of their instruction on a daily basis in Spanish. The goal of the program is create biliterate and bilingual Spanish speakers who have an in-depth understanding and appreciation of world cultures through socio- cultural competency. As a faculty, we celebrate over 40 countries (including many Spanish speaking countries) represented through our diverse student body.

Summit partners with a variety of community organizations. These include many local non-profit organizations who provide resources for those who are in need. Some of the organizations include: Lions Club, Community Kitchen, Backpack Buddies, and Catholic Charities. To support our Spanish speaking families and Dual Immersion Program, Summit partners with the Indiana University P-16 Institute, Indiana University School of Spanish and Portuguese, El Centro, and Escuelita. Summit also has a partnership with Indiana Adult and Child to provide private onsite therapy and skills development for students who are in need of social and emotional support.

Fun Facts

● Students at Summit Elementary are represented by over 40 countries and speak over 20 languages! This diversity is proudly displayed by hanging the flag of each country in our front hallway. ● Summit has only been open since 2005. The first class of Kindergarteners graduated from high school in 2018. Our faculty is on the lookout for our recent graduates who are doing great things as adults and we look forward to hearing the amazing feats they will accomplish in the coming years.
