Student Experiences
From birth, young children learn by interacting with objects in their environment while supported by caring adults. To support learning, early childhood teachers at the Early Learning Center and Hoosier Hills Child Care Center design play-based experiences that encourage children to explore, think, ask questions, and make predictions, and which encourage growth in all areas of development, including cognitive, social and emotional, and physical. Teachers intentionally design learning environments that meet the developmental needs of young children, offer ample opportunity to move, and support children’s growing sense of self-efficacy. Play-based experiences at all ages support the growth of foundational knowledge in early literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and the creative arts. Teachers actively support children’s emotional growth as well as their ability to solve problems and social conflicts. MCCSC’s early learning curriculum is based on Indiana’s Early Learning Foundations, which are aligned with the K-12 academic standards.
