firm was also honored to win a National Recognition Award at the American Council of Engineering Companies’ June 17 Engineering Excel - lence Awards ceremony after having won a top “Grand Conceptor” award at ACEC Delaware’s competition in February for an innovative channel restoration at the Avenue North mixed-use re- development. Phillips brings 35 years of relevant civil engineer- ing experience in the de- sign of small- and large-scale commercial, industrial and residential projects. Phillips

reports to John Gonzalez, P.E., CPSW Q, and will be responsible for the design of roads, grading, sediment and erosion control, storm drain- age and water and sewer utili- ties for Landmark's Mary- land-based projects. He has worked extensively on proj- ects in Harford, Baltimore, and Cecil Counties and has taken projects through the land development approval and permitting processes in these jurisdictions. Phillips resides in Perryville, MD and attended Cecil College after earning a diploma at Perryville High School. Firm associate John Gonzalez said he “looks forward to working with Kevin after hav- ing the experience of working together in the past" and that "Kevin is a perfect fit for the office and has the experience and ability to step in on Day 1 to help us meet the demands of our client's projects and to grow the office.” The ACEC National Recog - nition Award was received for design of the innovative chan- nel restoration at the Avenue North mixed-use redevelop- ment of the AstraZeneca site in Fairfax. Landmark’s staff provided the civil engineering design, wetland delineation and environmental permit- ting, surveying, and landscape design to restore a severely eroded stormwater channel that had sustained a large loss of tree canopy. Structural and vegetative measures were de- signed for long-term stabiliza- tion. Sustainable site features included reuse of site rock, geotextile fabric, live willow stakes, and native landscap- ing to protect the steep slopes. An innovative, two-tiered ga- bion basket structure, J-hook scour pools, and a customized box culvert were designed to reduce stormwater inflow ve - locity, preserve the banks, and control outflow from the site. Principal and project man- ager Keith Rudy said he was “extremely pleased that the project will provide improved water quality and a reduction of risk to downstream infra- structure, while adding value and a visually striking fea- ture to the owner’s property.” Landmark worked closely with the owner/developer, Delle Donne &Associates, and the constructor, Sanco Construc- tion Company , to create this winning project.
