The Nation Municipality’s 2017 Budget estimates have been approved by the Members of Council during their last meeting, held last Monday, December 19, 2016.There will be no increase in tax rates for2017. Residential properties’ evaluations (single detached homes) decreased by 0.39% on average, whereas agricultural properties’ evaluations increased by 16.67% on average. After three decades, there will be a major changeover on the administration side of the SouthNation Conservation Authority. At the end of next May, Dennis O’Grady steps down as general manager for the regio- nal conservation agency and looks forward to official retirement. Taking over as the new general manager for the South Nation Conservation Authority (SNC) is Angela Coleman, the current director for property management and approvals at the SNC’s Finch headquarters. “On behalf of SNC’s board of directors, we are pleased to have Angela Coleman accept her new role at SNC,” stated Doug Thomp- son, SNC chairman, in a press release. “An- gela has demonstrated excellent leadership at SNC since she started her career with us in 2001. Given her skills, experience, and credentials, the position of general manager/ secretary-treasurer is a natural fit for her.” Native to the Crysler area, in the South Nation River watershed region, Coleman holds bachelor degrees in arts, education, and law from the University of Ottawa. She joined the SNC in 2001 as its communi- cations coordinator and in 2006 became director of source protection, planning and communications. Les estimations budgétaires pour l’année 2017 ont été approuvées lors de la réunion du Conseil de laMunicipalité de la Nation, le lundi 19 décembre 2016 dernier. Il n’y aura pas d’augmentation au taux d’impo- sition pour l’année 2017. Suite à la réévaluation des propriétés par MPAC en 2016, l’évaluation des propriétés résidentielles (maisons unifamiliales déta- chées) a diminué enmoyenne de 0.39 %, tan- dis que l’évaluation des propriétés agricoles a augmenté enmoyenne par 16.67 %. De ce fait, il y a environ 300 000 $ qui seront géné- rés de plus en taxes, ce qui représente une augmentation de 2.79 % du revenu neutre de l’année passée. La Municipalité de La Nation prévoit plusieurs gros projets pour l’année 2017, entre autres, au niveau de l’environnement, de l’eau et des égouts, des travaux publics ainsi qu’à celui de la récréation et des loisirs. En effet, afin d’être proactifs et dans l’op- tique d’un environnement sain et sécuritaire, Fournier et Limoges verront la construction de deux centres de transfert saisonnier de déchets domestiques dangereux à leurs dé- potoirs. “Growing up in Crysler and my life-long community involvement has given me in- sight into the challenges facing rural com- munities,” Coleman stated. “At SNC, we’ve always beenmindful of those challenges and work closely with our watershed residents and municipal partners to address them.” Retiring general manager O’Grady has been involved with conservation agencies in Ontario for almost four decades, star- ting in 1978 as a summer student worker. During his three decades with the SNC, noted Thompson, O’Grady has developed an international reputation in conserva-
