FINISHING SHOTS By Tom Gray

THE FINAL BOMB: On June 15, 1951, the great former heavyweight champion Joe Louis continued his comeback when he faced Minnesota-based veteran and Ring-rated contender Lee Savold at Madison Square Garden. While now in obvious decline, Louis still had too much of everything for his opponent, who was badly cut up by The Brown Bomber’s signature jab and rapier combinations. The end came in Round 6 when Louis followed up on a brutal right hand with a fight-ending left hook to the jaw. This was the 52nd and final knockout of Louis’ legendary career.
