Further enhancing the world’s fastest-growing BUSINESS SCHOOL NETWORK
CEO’S COLUMN
Andrew Main Wilson reflects on the exponential growth of the BGA network, and explains how BGA is supporting Schools around the world in furthering the sustainability agenda
B usiness Schools play a vital role in preparing students for future employment, giving them the tools and skills to succeed in their professional lives. However, while this is a vital aspect of a Business School, AMBA – and in particular our BGA brand – believes that Schools also need to focus on broader aspects of the personal and professional growth of graduates. These includes the cultivation of social skills, ethical behaviour, self-confidence, and humility – all of which form the foundations of socially conscious and responsible leaders. Since its launch in 2019, the BGA network has grown to 181 member Schools (92 BGA solus Schools and 89 joint AMBA & BGA member Schools) making it the world’s fastest-growing Business School membership network. I’d like to remind you all of our invitation to AMBA-credited Schools to benefit from free BGA membership. Upon joining the network, BGA Schools gain access to services structured to provide them with
the tools they need to gain competitive advantage and a leading edge within the business education marketplace, helping them to serve their core markets of students, employers and wider society. We achieve this by supporting Schools’ continuous improvement, their impact on individuals and society, and their ongoing development of responsible management practices. BGA helps Schools to improve their responsible management initiatives through consultative services, capacity-building workshops, promotion of impactful projects and initiatives, and by providing ongoing general support. For example, one consultative service that is tailored to support Schools to improve responsibly is BGA’s Desktop Review. This complimentary process, available to BGA Schools, evaluates a specific aspect which a Business School is seeking to improve – such as its current marketing and admissions strategy, or undergraduate programme. The School is then assessed (confidentially) by an impartial
business-education expert, and provided with an opportunity to evaluate its current offering against internationally recognised standards. This enables it to gain a clear understanding of the crucial steps it needs to take, in order to achieve quality recognition. Further, 18 Schools have achieved joint AMBA & BGA accreditation, or solus BGA accreditation. At the heart of BGA accreditation lie the concepts of responsible management and sustainability. To achieve accreditation, Business Schools must provide evidence of their commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, through its actions, teaching and scholarship. BGA was developed to bring responsible management to the forefront of business education, and to advance the sustainability agenda. In the information age, it is critical that stakeholders understand the role that the Business School is playing in developing responsible managers of the future. Andrew Main Wilson, CEO, AMBA & BGA
