HBCU IMPACT TOUR INSPIRES STUDENTS AT JARVIS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY
Fargo, a partner on the Impact Tour, led lively discussions with students on the power of compound interest, investments and other wealth-building strategies. The 365 Impact event was designed to create a community event that adds value to HBCUs like Jarvis and the communities it serves through philanthropy, community development and developing community leadership. Scholarships to deserving and qualified students were granted through The Big Homecoming Foundation, Tom Joyner Foundation and Wells Fargo.
G rammy-Award-winning entertainment executive and Jarvis Christian University (JCU) executive-in-residence Amir Windom and his celebrity friends actor and philanthropist Dr. Lamman Rucker and actor and singer Reed Shannon joined students during the university’s 111th Founder’s Homecoming Week to authentically celebrate the culture of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The tour highlighted the rich history of HBCUs, particularly Jarvis, as it celebrates 111 years of educating a diverse population of lifelong learners intellectually, socially, spiritually and personally.
Rucker and Shannon shared experiences that had a big impact on their lives and led to their present careers. Rucker began his acting career on daytime soap operas before roles in Tyler Perry’s films, “Why Did I get Married” and “Why Did I Get Married Too?” Rucker also starred as Jacob Greenleaf in the Oprah Winfrey Network drama series, “Greenleaf.” He currently stars in the BET+ drama titled “The Black Hamptons.” Shannon appeared on Netflix’s four-time Emmy winning animated series “Arcane” and Amazon Prime’s young adult series “The Wilds". The Big Homecoming was held in Atlanta, Georgia, during Juneteenth Weekend 2022 and became the nations’ newest premier music and culture festival celebrating HBCUs.
This community event included a full day of professional development seminars, scholarship giveaways, fireside chats and creative engagement and provided financial literacy, investment and generational wealth- building strategies to JCU students. Wells
