Plan today for peace of mind tomorrow. JAN/FEB 2025
We gathered with family and friends, carved the turkey, indulged in wonderful side dishes and desserts, exchanged gifts, enjoyed the beautiful decorations, and rang in the new year. Now, we’ve pulled out a brand-new calendar for 2025, and it’s time to make it the best year yet. January is one of my favorite times of year — I love the feeling of a fresh start. After the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it’s refreshing to settle back into our routines and return to a sense of normalcy. TURN OVER A NEW PAGE Planning for a Fulfilling and Intentional 2025 This month is our chance to get back to it and shape the year we want in 2025. While I’m not big on resolutions, I do set goals. I think about what I’d like to achieve and how I want my year to look so I can look back and be proud. For me, it’s about big milestones and smaller moments that make life fulfilling. Celebrating the small wins matters — they’re the stepping stones that lead to those bigger accomplishments. The start of a new year is a good time to set new plans in motion. It’s also an opportunity to look back at goals from last year we didn’t check off. Now is the perfect time to revisit those items and decide this is the year to accomplish them. “When we create the year we want, that’s when we are able to create the life we want.”
A fresh new year is a great time to take stock of where we are now. It’s an opportunity to review your estate plan — does it still align with your needs? Is it up to date? Were there any events last year that may require adjustments? And don’t forget about doctor appointments — what needs to be scheduled? It’s easy to say, “I’ll get to that later,” but now is the perfect time to tackle these important tasks. Pulling out a new calendar for 2025 is the perfect time to get organized and set plans into motion. Putting pen to paper brings goals to life. Personally, I rely on my calendar — if it’s not scheduled, it’s not happening. This month is ideal for reviewing and reevaluating what’s on the agenda. I like to assess what no longer serves me and what deserves more of my time.
When we create the year we want, that’s when we are able to create the life we want. That, I believe, is where our true power lies. It all starts right now.
I wish each of you a happy start to 2025! Here’s to making a plan, sticking to it, and remembering it’s okay to tweak it along the way. Life happens, but it’s all about adjusting and being flexible. Happy New Year!

Master Your Money With Reverse Budgeting The Happiness Hack
When life feels overwhelming, or you just aren’t feeling your best, it can be difficult to find hope or joy. Sometimes, the best medicine is a little self-care in the form of simple activities and treats that you enjoy most. One of the best ways to boost your mood is by planning something to look forward to. Whether it’s a favorite movie, a new painting class, or a tasty latte, prioritizing things that bring us happiness can empower us with hope. It’s like adding a bright spot in the future, making the tough days more manageable. What do you love? Your plan doesn’t have to be grand or complicated. Start by identifying activities that make you happy or that interest you. Do you love comedy movies or enjoy going to concerts? You might sign up for an improv class or buy tickets to see a play. It can be anything that brings a smile to your face. Plan it. Once you know the activity, start planning. Our busy lives sometimes lack time for the little things that make us feel good. Treat your happiness like a necessary appointment and get it on your calendar. Spending time with your loved ones and friends also has a wealth of benefits for your mental health, so decide whether you want someone to join you. WHY SMALL PLANS CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE
By planning to do things that bring you joy, you’ll feel more hopeful, balanced, and better equipped to handle whatever life throws your way.
At Shoup Legal, we take great pride in our team members, and we’re excited to introduce our newest addition: Dailah, our new office services assistant! Dailah joined us at the end of last year, and we couldn’t be happier to have her on board. Before joining Shoup Legal, Dailah completed an internship with Hilder & Associates, a law office in Texas, where she began her journey toward a legal career. She graduated with her bachelor’s this past spring and is now applying to law schools with aspirations to specialize in intellectual property law. Her interest in this field was sparked during college — courses on entrepreneurship and sports marketing introduced her to the world of copyrights, patents, and trademarks. These topics fascinated her and inspired her to pursue a career protecting intellectual creations and innovations. Dailah has already made a wonderful impression on our team. “Everyone has been sweet and welcoming to me here,” she shared. “Even when I interviewed, I was instantly attracted to the culture. Everyone has been so helpful as I’ve adjusted to my new role. It’s a great work environment to be in.” Outside of the office, Dailah enjoys spending her free time by the beach, painting, and hiking with her adorable mini husky, Kyro. While her schedule is busy, she finds joy in these activities and the chance to be outside. Dailah, we are thrilled to have you as part of the Shoup Legal team! Your enthusiasm is amazing, and we can’t wait to support you as you pursue your goals. Together, we’ll continue to provide peace of mind and exceptional service to our clients. Welcome to the team!

WHY ESTATE PLANNING SHOULD TOP YOUR LIST IN 2025 Happy 2025! A new year always brings so many possibilities — fresh starts, big goals, and the motivation to make them happen. But while many people focus on health or finances, one resolution can have an even greater impact on your loved ones and your peace of mind: estate planning. Why Estate Planning Matters Estate planning isn’t only about putting a will together — it’s about making sure the people you care about are taken care of if something unexpected happens, ensuring your wishes are honored, and sparing your loved ones from unnecessary stress or financial hardship. Without an estate plan, your family could face a long, expensive probate process. Even worse, decisions about your property or your children could be left to the courts. And that’s not something anyone wants to leave to chance. Why Now? Let’s be honest — estate planning isn’t usually at the top of our to-do lists. It’s easy to put off. But 2025 is the perfect time to stop procrastinating and take action. Why? Because every year you wait is a year of potential risk. A new year is a chance to reflect on where you are and where you want to be, so why not include securing your family’s future in those plans? Simple Steps to Get Started Getting your estate plan in place might feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. It starts with a conversation. You don’t need to have all the answers or a complicated list of assets — just a desire to protect the people you care about. We will walk you through everything step by step. Whether you’re creating a plan from scratch or updating it for life changes like a marriage, new baby, or business venture, we’ll make sure your plan fits your life. NEW YEAR, NEW GOALS

DISCOVER PANAMA An Unforgettable Tropical Paradise
Isla Bastimentos National Marine Park This amazing national park, established in 1988, covers over 50 square miles and over 130 islands of the Bocas del Toro Archipelago, including the popular coral reefs of the Cayos Zapatillas. If you are interested in rubbing shoulders with monkeys, sloths, crocodiles, and countless marine species, this is the spot for you! Panama Canal No list would be complete without mentioning one of the greatest engineering feats in human history: the Panama Canal. The canal, which runs for roughly 40 miles through the Isthmus of Panama, was completed in August 1914, just a month after the outbreak of World War I. The canal works via a system of locks, filled and emptied of water to raise and lower boats. Ships up to 950 feet long transport over 200 million tons of cargo annually through the canal. If you visit Panama, you have to see the canal for yourself!
The Central American country of Panama, home to the namesake Panama Canal that allows easy passage of maritime traffic between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, is more than a hub for international trade: It’s a scenic tropical paradise. Just 30,000 square miles in size — smaller than South Carolina — Panama packs a lot of incredible sites into one compact package. The country uses the American dollar, so you don’t need to exchange currency to make a worthwhile trip there. Here are three locations you can look forward to on your vacation to Panama! Panama City Founded in 1519, Panama’s capital is a metropolis amidst lush tropical rainforests. Around 40% of the country’s population resides in the city, which is full of amazing historical and entertainment districts that attract tourists worldwide. The Casco Viejo historical district, comprised of Spanish colonial architecture, was named a World Heritage site in 1997.
