KAPPA FOUNDATION SPOTLIGHT
Achieving on All Levels: Evan R. Jackson Graduates from Junior Grand Vice Polemarch to COO
F or the past two years, Brother Evan Jackson has served Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., as the Junior Grand Vice Polemarch and the Kappa Alpha Psi ® Foundation, as a member of the Board of Directors. As he enters his senior year at Brown University, The Lambda Xi of Kappa Alpha Psi, his focus is on his studies, his com- pany, and experiencing campus life. Jackson was initiated in March 2018 as a freshman and his collegiate journey has been a whirlwind of activity and achievement. He played football his freshman year and part of his sophomore year. Also, during his sophomore year, he successfully campaigned for the office of Junior Grand Vice Polemarch (JGVP). The following year was spent traveling until the pandemic hit. Since then, he has continued to stay connected with undergraduates across the country, virtually. He attributed his evolution as a leader to his time as JGVP. Jackson says that the office helped him make genuine con- nections and hone his public speaking and presentation skills. Through his work on the Foundation Board, he was able to strategically impact undergraduates through his work with the Undergraduate COVID-19 Relief Fund. “The number one thing that I was focusing on, and I think that I effectively succeeded in a lot of ways, was giving the undergraduates a voice,” said Jackson. “Making sure that every time I walked into a room or into a meeting, I represented myself well because I knew I represented the undergraduates. I think we turned a lot of heads and opened up a lot of ears to our thoughts and our opinions. Folks that may not have been quick to listen before might be quicker to listen now. “I think that we put ourselves on the map in terms of these conversations. The JGVP position and the positions of our Undergraduate Board Members are not just figurehead posi- tions but positions that have a real voice.” “The leadership that Brother Evan Jackson brought to the Foundation Board was exceptional,” said Michael J. Dubose, Foundation President. “It was his energy and drive that made the Brothers for Brothers giving campaign successful. He saw the need that the undergraduates were facing and created a solution that benefited more than 800 college students across the country. Brother Jackson has a very successful future ahead of him and I was proud to serve with him on the Foun-
dation Board.” While many students are entering their senior year with anx- iousness about their post-college careers, that’s not an issue for Jackson. Jackson is the cofounder of Intus Care, a com- pany he created with friend and college roommate, Robbie Felton, son of Brother John Felton (Greenville (NC) Alumni Chapter 1992). Intus Care, is a healthcare analytics platform that provides data-driven insights to elderly care organizations to predict health risks for their patients. The platform looks at the entirety of a patient’s health history, analyzes the data, and then apprises organizations, such as nursing homes, on which patients are at a high risk for adverse health-related incidents and why. The information provided by Intus Care can help organizations get in front of costly health events. Jackson and Felton seemed fated to create Intus Care. Jack- son’s background is in healthcare finance, and he comes from a family of geriatric nurses. Felton’s mother began her career as a geriatric social worker and now serves as the executive director of a geriatric care organization. Felton brought the point-of-care viewpoint to the table, while Jackson brought the operational side. Through numerous conversations, the roommates realized that geriatric healthcare was an industry ripe for innovation. With the numbers of seniors increasing and not seeing many technological advances, they dove into the space, and Intus Care was created. The startup participated in the MassChallenge, a six-month accelerator program that featured a competition at its conclu- sion. After three rounds of competition, Intus Care won the MassChallenge, winning $50,000 for the startup. They stra-
