CRITICAL ILLNESS COVER Critical illness cover is a benefit that aims to support you and your family during a difficult time in your life. It is provided to all colleagues, free of charge and is a benefit in kind. It provides a £10,000 lump sum payment upon diagnosis of a critical illness, as defined within the insurance policy. You also have the opportunity to purchase top up cover for yourself or your spouse/partner. ENHANCED SICK PAY We go further than our legal obligation to provide statutory sick pay and offer enhanced financial support in the form of occupational sick pay. Please refer to your contract of employment for further details and qualifying criteria. LIFE ASSURANCE COVER Yusen want to help you secure a safe financial future for your family. Life Assurance cover helps to give peace of mind that in the event of your death, your family will receive financial support. A lump sum payment will be made to your beneficiaries. The level of your benefit is detailed in your contract of employment. It is important that you complete and regularly update an Expression of Wish form to ensure, where legally possible, Trustees can direct the funds to your preferred beneficiaries in accordance with your wishes.
PENSION SCHEME Saving for your pension is important. Yusen provide a pension scheme into which you will be automatically enrolled through salary exchange. The way it works is that you make a contribution from your pay before tax is taken, helping you save money in a tax efficient way. Yusen will also make contributions on your behalf to help grow your savings even faster. At retirement, you choose to take your savings in a way that suits you. TALKING IS KEY TO THIS, AND WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO HAVE OPEN AND HONEST CONVERSATIONS ABOUT YOUR MENTAL WELLBEING. THAT’S WHY ALL OUR MANAGERS ARE TRAINED IN SUPPORTING COLLEAGUES WITH THEIR MENTAL HEALTH.
MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID NETWORK Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) are available across the business. Our MHFAs have been trained to support colleagues who may be experiencing poor mental health. Mental Health First Aiders will: • Act as a point of contact to reassure colleagues in emotional distress or experiencing poor mental health. • Listen non-judgementally and hold supportive conversations. • Signpost colleagues to professional help. • Identify the signs and symptoms for a range of mental health conditions. • Use a five-step action plan to assist someone experiencing a mental health issue. As well as providing support to colleagues, our Mental Health First Aiders are advocates of positive mental health in the workplace and are working hard to promote greater awareness of mental health in the workplace and reducing stigma. It is important to say that MHFAs are not qualified to provide counselling, diagnosis or ongoing support. In addition, they cannot be available outside their normal working hours and they may not be able to respond immediately to a request for help, but will arrange a time to call or meet up. A mailbox has also been set up so you can access the team at areyouok@uk.yusen-logistics.com . Please be assured any conversations with a member of the MHFA team are confidential, except in situations where the MHFA is concerned that the person seeking support is at risk of harming themselves or others. ABLE FUTURES Whatever is on your mind, affecting your mental health could be eased by contacting ‘Able Futures’. This service is available to any of our colleagues at no cost, no waiting list and is completely confidential. You will receive nine months of advice and guidance from a mental health professional at a time that suits you. They will support you not only with the area that is causing you issues with your mental health but how that affects your whole life, such as problems sleeping and physical health. MENOPAUSE SUPPORT AND TRAINING The menopause is a natural part of every woman’s life but even though it’s something 50% of the population goes through, it’s still a taboo subject for many. Employers, families, and women themselves grapple with what the menopause is and what can be done to help. This can make talking about it difficult: for the women concerned as well as their loved ones, their colleagues, and managers. That’s why at Yusen, we have a Menopause Policy in place to support you and have provided training on ‘Asking For Help In The Menopause and Supporting with Compassion’ to our HR team, Wellbeing team, and Mental Health First Aiders to ensure they are more informed and able to signpost you to support. CARER’S LEAVE We recognise that many of our colleagues are juggling work with caring responsibilities. HOW DO I ACCESS DEVELOPMENT? There are two ways to access development at Yusen; either through your PDR or on an ongoing basis, with a Development Request Form. APPRENTICESHIPS As an Apprenticeship Levy paying employer, we actively endorse and support the professional development of our colleagues through the Apprenticeship Scheme. LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME Our Leadership Development Programme is delivered in conjunction with ‘And Partnership’, a leading organisational and leadership development consultancy. The programme is delivered over an 11 month period which comprises online webinars, workshops, books and podcasts. The programme includes 360 degree feedback through Lumina, to enable you to understand more about your style and how others perceive you, so that you can really understand the shadow you cast as a leader and where your development opportunities are.
INTERNATIONAL FREIGHT FORWARDING TRAINING PROGRAMME Yusen Logistics offer an International Freight Forwarding Training Programme aimed at individuals who are new to Ocean Freight and Air Freight, to provide the skills necessary to perform their role to the best of their ability. This five module programme is delivered in partnership with BIFA (British International Freight Association) and provides a range of International Freight Forwarding specialised knowledge along with internal courses. At the end of the programme, individuals are invited to graduate through presenting what they learned while on their journey and how they put that learning into practice.

PROGRESSION ISN’T ALWAYS ABOUT PROMOTION, AND THERE ARE LOTS OF OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN THE UK AND THE WIDER GLOBAL NETWORK FOR INDIVIDUALS TO FURTHER THEIR CAREERS.
HOW DO WE IDENTIFY INTERNAL TALENT? Performance Development Reviews (PDR) summarise an individual’s performance throughout the year. Results are entered into the PDR system and from this, Performance Matrices are produced to give a view of overall performance for the business. These results are reviewed by the Talent & Development Team, HR, Senior Leaders and Managers. Nominated high performers are invited to a Development Centre, so future potential can be assessed. Following this, individuals receive feedback and are supported to complete a Career Development plan. Results are shared with HR and Senior Leaders who will also keep a look out for job and development opportunities. HOW DO I REQUEST A MENTOR? Yusen operates a formal Mentoring Programme with over forty senior, middle and specialist individuals available to support others development and career progression. To request a Mentor, individuals should complete the Mentor Request Form and send to Clair Royle, Head of Talent & Development. 5 DAYS VOLUNTEER LEAVE Yusen provide you with a very generous 5 days paid volunteer leave per year. You can utilise your leave through the ‘Yusen Community Programme’ which includes supporting disadvantaged people in their search for employment through the ‘Job Coaching Programme’ and charity partnerships with Himmah and Hope. If you prefer to take this leave to support a charity or cause close to your heart, you are free to do so.
JOB COACHING PROGRAMME The Job Coaching Programme connects job seekers with coaches. You will be provided with training by Business in the Community (BITC) and you will then be matched with a job seeker whom requires coaching support, through six virtual one-to-one online sessions. By taking part, job seekers will be supported to improve their skills, confidence and wellbeing in their search for employment and it is an opportunity for you to develop your skills too.

HIMMAH Yusen have partnered with Himmah in Nottingham. Himmah is a Social Justice Organisation, with a mission to tackle food poverty, racism and educational inequalities. As well as operating the largest independent food bank in Nottingham, they offer hot meals every week, distribute school uniforms to low income families and campaign to eradicate disproportionality.
THE HOPE CENTRE Yusen have partnered with the Hope Centre in Northampton. Their work helps people experiencing problems of disadvantage and marginalisation, including hardship, homelessness, addiction and mental health. Yusen colleagues can support Hope through volunteering in their warehouse.
