OUTPUT: RUDDER TURNING
Alarm & Control System ՠ Receives commands from the vessel control system (FFU / NFU / Autopilot) and executes them - 'turn starboard (SPB)' or 'turn portside (PS)' ՠ Alarm & control panels monitor the connected components, indicate warnings and failures and enable the user to switch the HPUs on or off ՠ One alarm panel in the engine control room (ECR) monitors the connected components and indicates warnings as well as failures ՠ In case of emergency, the steering gear can be controlled by a terminal box near the rudder actuator (with starter box switched to ‘local operation’)
Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU)
ՠ Each HPU is equipped with at least one oil tank, one electrical motor and one hydraulic pump ՠ Safety valves protect the actuator from overload pressure ՠ Uses an open- or a closed-loop hydraulic system with a variable displacement pump, suitable for torque up to 1,000 kNm ՠ Temperature sensor and oil-level switches provide monitoring information for the alarm system ՠ Up to two HPUs can be mounted on one transport grid (see figure)
