On a very rainy afternoon on April 18th, there were some who braved the storms to participate and WIN CASH in the repurposing contest. The winners were a brother and sister from Kingston Springs Elementary school by reusing/ repurposing a lampshade turned upside down, old hula hoops, parts from an old light, left over tissue paper and a broken fruit basket ready for the trash. They created the most interesting and adorable hot air balloon light fixture.

It has been a very busy school year! If there is one thing we all know, change will happen! The overall theme in this final school year issue is all about the world being in our kids’ hands. As you go through, there are stories about the importance of the hand and how it plays into important events in history. Let’s Talk Trash!-News is proud to feature a special memorial section on Mayor David McCullough who was the inspiration for this publication. We will surely miss him! The time has come for GRADUATION to another grade, a college or out into the world. For seniors who will be graduating , the future is truly in your hands. It is through what they have learned that they can go forward making this a better place and a better world for all of us. (see page 7) It is up to teachers, parents, and our community to strive to arm them with the best tools in the box, i.e.: character, integrity, responsibilty, and citizenship. Let’s Talk Trash!-News strives with every issue to meet these overall needs with kid-friendly informative stories, puzzles, and activities providing a quality educational resource for all students in Cheatham County. We have been honored to provide

this publication for the past two school years and look forward the next with continued sponsorships by the county and local businesses. Let’s Talk Trash!-News began its delivery every other month to Elementary and Middle school students; however, beginning this past December we expanded our distribution to include High Schools and solicited High School English Students to become contributing writers. Their enthusiam has been infectious! Meet our 12 writers on page 12! Mother’s Day and Father’s Day is around the corner, so there are stories and cards to color celebrating the importance of these days of honor. There is a common thread in each issue of Let’s Talk Trash!-News: If one is aware of the dangers our environment faces, then one can actively do something about it. Remember, littering is the single greatest harm we do to our world. If things are disposed of in a proper manner, the world would be a much cleaner place - roadways, waterways, the air we breathe, etc... Let’s Talk Trash! Don’t be Selfish! Clean it UP!
