than later, the world has to wake up. This is our planet as it is the rest of nature. We are a part of nature not separated from it. We need to start acting like it now. The world is alive and we need to take care of it. Jayden: I think it is sad that nobody takes the time to think about how the environment and how wildlife is affected when they litter. korey: The world needs to know the effects that pollution has on earth and all of its natural resources. kara: I think that it is amazing that humans can’t seem to grasp the fact that this place, kara: I wasn’t surprised that there is garbage in the oceans and lakes, but I am amazed by how much there is. dawson: Yes, because I have seen the ocean, personally, and there is enough to block my view of it, then I am surprised. slade: No, I’ve been aware of this problem for years. It kills me that it’s only gotten worse.

earth, is our one and only planet. If we continue destroying it in this way, we are going to kill it and all of us along with it. dawson: It’s made me really see how many people throw away trash into the ocean, some not knowing. slade: Pollution is a serious issue and it hurts me that more people aren’t aware of this. It is killing many animals and probably people, too. So, we need to get this under control

Nicole: I did not understand how bad the trash was in different parts of the world. How could people be so careless about the hazards of litter and its affect on the beauty of their communitiy? ajani: I’m ashamed and disappointed. I think it’s pathetic how we treat the world and earth with such unawareness to our own actions. How could we have been so carelss to let all this garbage amass in the ocean like this? It’s selfish. This world is not our giant trash bin, it is meant to be loved and lived in harmony with all creatures on this earth. How far does humanity have to fall before the movie Wall-E becomes our reality. Sooner Nicole: I was not surprised that it was happening, but it is still heart breaking that no one sees the consequence of their actions just because they were not caught in the moment. ajani: No, I just had hoped we would have been better. Jayden: No, because I know that a lot of the world’s trash ends up in places like the ocean and over time it can build up. korey: Not really, because ever since middle school, I realized how bad the earth is polluted. Nicole: Yes, I do believe it will continue. It has clearly become a bad habit and someone who does not know it is wrong will continue as routine. Someone needs to break that habit and teach the new generation. ajani: Yes, the children are the future of this planet and they must be educated on how to save it after we are gone. They may be our only hope. We have no idea how much time we have left, we need to start now. Jayden: Yes, if they are not made aware now then it will only continue to get worse. korey: I think that pollution will continue for a long time, but if we can inform kids as well as adults on how to prevent pollution and how to stop it, after a while pollution might actually end.

1. How did the Great Pacific Garbage Patch story affect you and what do you think of what’s happening around the world?

2. Were you surprised about this much garbage in the oceans and lakes?

the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

3. Do you think this kind of “trashy” behavior will continue without kids being made aware

kara: Littering will always be a problem, but I believe that if we get young children into the habit of properly disposing of their garbage, it will drastically change littering like the Garbage Patch dawson: Yes, unaware = accidents which leads to destruction that leads to nature’s death. slade: Not if they all get a stellar newspaper informing them of the risks that littering causes, (-: . As long as we introduce the topic at an early age and make kids aware of the issue, I think we could begin to erradicate these problems.
