The author is a native Greek and trained in law in Athens and in theology in Edinburgh. CHRIST AND HUMAN VALUES by A. C. Reid. Out of a long background of teaching at Wake Forest College the author presents a vigorous challenge to the reader to accept a Christian philosophy of life. The messages were originally delivered at Mercer University during a religious emphasis week. The messages are designed to produce strong Chris­ tians (not limited to the masculine sex). The author is a well-known British evangelist. PAUL AND HIS LETTERS by J. Winston Pearce. 168 pages; cloth; Broadman Press, Nashville; $2.95. With chapters "somewhere between ad­ dresses and sermons," the author presents the essence and flavor of each of the Pauline Epistles. An initial chapter recounts his life. Using as the basis of each discussion what the author believes to be the theme of the letter, he goes on to unfold the center and kernel. THE SUBURBAN CAPTIVITY OF THE CHURCHES by Gibson Winter. 216 pages; cloth; Doubleday & Co., New York; $3.50. An attempt to call the church back to the ministry of the metropolis. Must we have the "vicious circle of demolition, redevelopment, and spreading blight?" While the book develops an anaylsis and a program within the liberal framework, there are many useful suggestions here for the evangelical. The other returned finally accept­ ing the Lord and marrying the sweetheart who had refused to marry him when he went off to war because he was not a Christian. THE NEW BIRTH by Herman A. A Christian psychologist ex­ amines the motivational values of puiposeful ambition, and how to implement this in per­ sonal life and for the church. HOW CAN THESE THINGS BE? AND OTHER MESSAGES by Bill H. Lewis. 87 pages; cloth; Zondervan Pub. House, Grand Rapids; $ 1.95. Seven messages by a Southern Baptist evan­ gelist. Too much money for the book. GOD BLESSED ME WITH A HEART ATTACK by Richard G. Dunwoody. 62 pages; paper; Zonder­ van Publishing House, Grand Rapids; $1.00. What many look upon as a tragedy, this author found to be an adventure in trust and spiritual ex­ perience. NEAR TO GOD by Abraham Kuyper. 108 pages; cloth; Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co., Grand Rapids; $2.00. Kuyper is well known for his theological and philosophical works. This little volume is rich in devotional content. There are seventeen chapters ranging through as many phases of the personal Christian life. TRAINING FOR TRIUMPH IN VICTORIOUS LIVING by Eric Hutchings. 127 pages; cloth; Zondervan Pub. House, Grand Rapids; $1.95. From God's dealings with Joshua and Paul's Second Letter to Timothy, the author draws ma­ terial for a doctrine of victory in the Christian life. His style is vivid and stimulating.
