Why is it Important? This curated list of medications approved for use, often accompanied by application guidelines, allows the Group to provide the highest quality of care to patients through a value- based and completely transparent approach. The selection and inclusion of medicines into the formulary are based on the latest clinical evidence, research, and international approvals
such as those from the FDA or EMEA. This not only ensures the standardization of care by providing the latest and most innovative therapies to patients but also enhances patient safety. It further improves supply chain management and inventory, adhering to regulatory, sustainability and ethical compliance.
What’s a Medicine Formulary? A formulary is an official list or catalog of medications approved for use within a specific healthcare system. It includes both prescription and over-the-counter drugs and often outlines which medications are preferred based on factors like efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Formularies guide physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers in prescribing the most appropriate medications for patients.

Isthmocele: A Post-Cesarean Condition Isthmocele is a uterine defect that forms at the site of a cesarean scar. Over time, toxic fluid can accumulate in this area, potentially impacting fertility. This condition affects approximately 20% of individuals following a C-section and may present with symptoms such as abnormal bleeding, severe menstrual pain, or chronic pelvic pain. With the increasing prevalence of C-sections, awareness of isthmocele is essential, as untreated cases can lead to complications like cesarean scar pregnancy, uterine rupture, or infertility.
Role of Isthmocele Repair A complex surgery, the Isthmocele Repair helps to support future pregnancies. A skilled surgeon can pinpoint the exact location of the defect, excise it completely, and ensure perfect approximation to achieve excellent results. The surgery can be performed using both laparoscopic and robotic techniques. However, results are better with robotic surgery, as it offers immersive 3D vision, which aids in identifying the defect’s precise location. The dexterity of the instruments allows for excellent suturing and correction of the defect.

Neuroblastoma originates in immature nerve cells and can form from nerve tissue that grows uncontrollably. In Mahmoud’s case, it developed into a tumor near the back of his right lung, wrapping around his spinal cord.

Expert Care at Lifecare Saves a Critical ARDS Patient Without ECMO W hen the 57-year-old Bhandari Shovakhar was brought to Lifecare Hospital in Musaffah, he had been fighting a life- threatening situation. He had severe bilateral pneumonia caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, accompanied by septic shock, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), dangerously low oxygen levels (P/F ratio of 86), high carbon dioxide in blood, and multi-organ failure. He needed ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), often a last-resort treatment for severe ARDS. His critical state made the transfer for ECMO impossible.

Hence, the hospital’s multidisciplinary team, led by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Gupta, Consultant, Respiratory Medicine and Head of the Pulmonology Department, and Dr. Muhammed Noufal, Specialist Pulmonologist, developed an intensive, evidence-based plan tailored to his condition. This involved using advanced ventilator techniques, such as positioning the patient face down, carefully adjusting the oxygen and pressure settings to support breathing effectively, and timely use of antibiotics to treat the underlying pneumonia. Despite the challenges, the multidisciplinary team, including pulmonologists, intensivists, internal medicine team, ICU nurses, respiratory therapist, and physiotherapist, worked seamlessly to stabilize him, avoiding the need for ECMO altogether. Under the team’s supervision, the patient began to show gradual improvement. His oxygen levels improved, and he was successfully extubated. He was also provided with physiotherapy and supportive care to ensure a successful recovery. After 40 days of meticulous care, he was discharged from the hospital in a stable condition and traveled to his home country.
