Rewards o f Stewardship Earnest friends write to the Bible Insti tute of Los Angeles concerning their per sonal experiences in Christian stewardship. The letters are filled with encouragement. There is no intimation in these comments that the practice of tithing is a sort of lever by which material blessings may be ob tained. God will not be bribed. But the believer who, in love to God, gives to Him in the manner which the Scriptures commend, will find that thé heavenly Father is the greatest Giver. One friend writes t- “I get a great deal of joy through paying out amounts system atically.” “We were sitting at supper,” another donor writes, “and I said to my husband, ‘Do you think we could give something monthly out of our stewardship money to the Bible Institute of Los Angeles?’ He reminded me that our stewardship fund was pretty well overdrawn. I said, ‘Let’s pray about it.’ We prayed—not knowing how the

Fastest Train Between Los Angeles and San Francisco

"Daylight" is the name of two new trains of the Southern Pacific railway, operating between Los Angeles and. San Francisco. The locomotives are the largest streamlined engines ever constructed. Each is 109 feet long, including tender, and weighs 411 tons.

On March 21, speeding over the famous California Coast Route, the new Southern Pacific train, the “Daylight,” made its ini- •tial trip. T h e K ing ’ s B usiness is glad to announce this fact and to give a brief description of the train, for two reasons: First, because the information will be of practical value not only to travelers who reside in the West, but also to friends who plan to visit California. In the second place, T h e K ing ’ s B usiness values the op portunity of expressing gratitude to such companies as the Southern Pacific for nu merous courtesies which these firms have shown to Christian people—kindnesses which cannot be fully reciprocated. In producing the “Daylight,” the two new streamlined trains operating between Los Angeles and San Francisco, the rail way has spared no expense to make them the strongest, safest, and most comfortable trains ever constructed. - In addition to these features, the hew trains travel on the fastest regular schedule in history between

the terminal cities which are served, that is, less than ten hours. One may leave in the morning and.arrive at terminals in the early evening, in time for dinner. Includ ing the few stops, the “Daylight” averages about fifty miles an hour for the 471-mile run. Each “Daylight” consists of a locomotive and twelve cars. The outside colors of the train are as vivid as the California sun. The interior colors are harmonious and restful, varying from car to car. All seats are cushioned with sponge rubber. Win dows are extraordinarily wide, and double, with an outer pane of plate glass and an inner pane of safety glass. All cars are completely air-conditioned. There is no extra fare except for reserved seats in the parlor cars. Coach, tourist, and first-class tickets are all honored on the “Daylight.” When planning a trip which must yield relaxation and opportunity for meditation, do not overtook the advantages of travel in the “Daylight.”
