DEFINITION OF TERMS

SUSPENDED SYSTEM VS. TENSIONED SYSTEM While these terms typically refer to cable systems, they also apply to rod based systems. A suspended system is one where the cable/rod is suspended from above. This is typically by a track, pier or other xed point of some kind. The cables/rods hang freely and terminate somewhere along the wall, usually behind a wall object. A tensioned system relies on a pair of tracks or xed points, one above and one below the wall object. While still anchored from above, the cables/rods are attached and tensioned to the lower track/point. OPEN FACE VS. CLOSED FACE TRACK Open Face Track will typically allow mounting hardware to be seen within the interior or on the face of the track. Closed Face Track hides all mounting screws and clips, making this type of track more discreet. SELF-GRIPPING Self-Gripping is a term used to describe premium hooks that require no hand tightening. These hooks, aka grippers, leverage the weight of the hanging item to tighten itself against the cable/cord or rod to which it is attached. SECURE VS. ANTI-THEFT The term Secure refers to a product that, when used with other recommended components, will resist loosening, dislodging or releasing when accidentally bumped or shaken (such as during an earthquake). The term Anti-Theft refers to a product that, when used with other recommended components, provides rst-line resistance to common theft. HOOK VS. HANGER We use the term “Hook” to describe a tting that connects an object to one of our cables or rods. The term “Hanger” describes ttings that attach a cable or rod to a xed point in a building or space. PIERS The term Pier describes a tting attached at a xed point. These ttings are typically used to attach a cable to a wall or ceiling.
