Cinco De Mayo Celebration 1 p.m.-6 p.m. | Canteen District

The Cinco de Mayo celebration is hosted by HOPE Esperanza! This free, family-friendly event will feature exciting activities such as piñatas, a raffle, a DJ, a pan walk, and a vibrant Folklorico performance. Attendees can enjoy delicious food from various food trucks and vendors while also connecting with local nonprofit resources. New this year are a chili contest and a grito contest, adding even more excitement to the festivities. Hosted by Nebraska Game and Parks, community fishing events are held at venues across the state each spring and summer. Look for the Family Fishing Trailer, where loaner rods and reels, bait and fishing instruction are available free to participants. Fishing Instructors are also available to provide helpful tips and answer questions. This is the perfect opportunity for people of all ages who have never been fishing or haven’t fished for years to learn. Community Fishing Night 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Lake Maloney SRA

MAY 14 Town Hall Lecture Series: Laurie Woolever “What I Learned from Traveling with Bourdain” 10:30 a.m. | North Platte Community Playhouse Now entering its 43 rd year, the Town Hall Lecture Series has brought engaging, insightful and informative speakers from across the world to audiences in North Platte. On stage, Woolever shares her experiences traveling the globe with Anthony Bourdain and the valuable lessons learned about traveling, cooking and culture.
