ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS General Admissions Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the college, applicants must have a high school diploma, GED, or an equivalent recognized credential. All prospective students are required to complete the following steps: an initial interview with the admissions office or attendance at an information session. Parents and spouses are welcome and encouraged to participate in the admissions interview. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Bachelor of Science in Nursing applicants are required to take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) Exam on campus at Sumner College, or an approved proctored testing site. A $80 non-refundable test fee is due at the time the test is scheduled. Applicants must complete the BSN application, which includes four essays, one letter of recommendation, resume, and unofficial transcripts if the candidate is seeking transfer credit. Applicants must obtain an overall score of a 71% or higher on the TEAS exam, and a minimum point value must be achieved to be considered for admittance into the program. Please see the BSN information packet for additional infor- mation regarding the application process. If accepted into the program, a $200 registration fee is due at the time of enrollment. RN to BSN Program (BSN) Applicants must be a graduate from an accredited registered nursing program, with a GPA of 2.0 or higher, and hold or acquire an unencumbered nursing license in the state in which they will practice. Applicants must have completed 15 semester credit hours or 22.5 quarter credit hours of general education and meet admission prerequisite requirements. The following general education courses must be completed with a C or higher grade to be transferred into the program: Anatomy and Physiology (12 quarter credits), English – written and oral communication (12 quarter credits) Sociology (4 quarter credits), Psychology (4 quarter credits), Human growth and development (4 quarter credits). Online courses are available to all students enrolled in the RN to BSN program of the College. Courses are delivered asynchronously through the Canvas (Instructure) LMS. Applicants for online delivery must meet all College admissions requirements and: • Have access to a computer; • Complete an online readiness assessment • Have access to the Internet; • Participate in an online orientation Practical Nursing Program (PN) Practical Nursing applicants are required to take the ACCUPLACER exam, submit an application, three essays, and one letter of rec- ommendation to be considered for admission. A minimum score of 4 points (80% or higher in each section) must be awarded on the ACCUPLACER test and the applicant must complete the test in under 2.5 hours to proceed in the application process. Applicants who do not achieve an overall minimum score of 80% or exceed the 2.5 hour time-frame must retake the entire test. A $15 non-refundable test fee is due at the time the test is scheduled. Please see the PN infomration packet for additional information regarding the application process. If accepted into the program, a $50 application fee is due at the time of enrollment.
