Program Outcomes 1. Provide legal and ethical nursing care within the scope of practice of the Registered Nurse. 2. Operate healthcare technology to collect, manage, and communicate data in the provision of nursing care. 3. Collaborate through effective communication with the interprofessional team and diverse patient populations in the provision of comprehensive patient-centered care across various settings. 4. Synthesize knowledge from nursing and other disciplines in clinical reasoning and clinical judgment. 5. Model professionalism and nursing excellence through a commitment to quality improvement and lifelong learning. 6. Demonstrate culturally congruent nursing care for a diverse patient population. 7. Provide safe, effective, and caring interventions with a diverse patient population across the lifespan. Per the OSBN, our curriculum has been thoughtfully developed to meet the following criteria: (a) Nursing Competencies: Our program prepares students to achieve the necessary nursing competencies required for safe practice at the licensure level, based on current standards of care. (b) Alignment with Mission and Goals: The curriculum reflects the identified mission, goals, and learning outcomes of our nursing education program, ensuring a cohesive and focused educational experience. (c) Consistency with Nursing Law: We adhere to the laws governing the practice of nursing, ensuring that our curriculum is compliant and up-to-date with the regulatory requirements. (d) Learning Outcomes and Progression: Clear learning outcomes are identified at both the course and program levels, demonstrating alignment and progression throughout the program. (e) Supportive Learning Activities: Our curriculum includes a range of courses and learning activities designed to support student achievement of the identified outcomes, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. (f) Nursing Practice Experiences: Nursing practice experiences are carefully organized to allow students to form the necessary links between theoretical knowledge, clinical reasoning, and competent nursing practice. These experiences are structured in a manner that provides sufficient exposure for effective learning. (g) Graduation Requirements: We clearly define the requirements for graduation, ensuring that students have a clear understanding of what is expected of them to successfully complete the program. (h) Total Units for Graduation: The total units required for graduation are clearly identified, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the program’s academic workload. The college requires student to complete a total of 128 credits to be eligible for graduation. The clinical component of our nursing curriculum is a vital aspect of our program. We are committed to ensuring that it meets the highest standards by incorporating the following elements: (a) Variety of Settings: Nursing practice experiences occur in a diverse range of settings, exposing students to various healthcare environments and enhancing their adaptability, diversity and versatility. (b) Direct Care and Clinical Practicum Hours: Our program ensures that students have ample direct care and final clinical practicum hours, meeting course and program outcomes. (d) Patient Safety and Evidence-Based Practices: We prioritize patient safety principles and the implementation of evidence-based practices within our nursing practice experiences, ensuring that students develop a strong foundation in these essential areas. (e) Patient-Centered and Culturally Competent Care: Our nursing practice experiences focus on the provision of patient-centered, culturally competent care. We emphasize the importance of respecting patient differences, involving patients in decision-making, and explaining interventions to promote health. At Sumner College, we are dedicated to providing a Practical Nursing Program that upholds the highest standards of professional nursing education. Our curriculum, nursing practice experiences, and commitment to excellence ensure that our graduates are well-prepared to make a positive impact in the field of nursing.
