The Québec doctor is charged with four counts of first-degree murder following police investigation of four deaths at Hawkesbury and District Regional Hospital that occurred while he was employed there. Two weeks of prelimi- nary hearings took place earlier this month at provincial court in L’Orignal as Crown counsel presented evidence to show cause to bring the case to trial. Both Crown and defence counsel and the presiding judge attended virtually through long-distance video transmis- sion. The Nadler case will return to court on June 8 for another pre-trial session and then again on June 30 when a possible court date may be set to allow for all the testimony and evidence prese- nations by Crown and defnece. – Gregg Chamberlain

There was no argument, discussion or debate as Champlain Township council gave its unanimous support to the growing municipal lobby urging approval of Bill 5, the Stopping Harassment and Abuse by Local Leaders Act. During its May 26 session council reviewed a resolution that Russell Township council is sending out to all the municipal councils in Prescott-Russel, urging support for the provincial legislature to approve Bill 5. The legislation, if approved, would demand that any member of any municipal council in Ontario, whether that person is a councilor or a mayor, must obey the workplace violence and harassment policies set in place to protect the staff of their municipality, not just from violence or harassment on the job from any member of the public but also from municipal staff and members of municipal council. The legislation would extend the same protection from violence and harass- ment to municipal council members. Un résident de Grenville-sur-la-Rouge fait face à plusieurs chefs d’accusation à la suite d’une enquête policière sur la pornographie juvénile. Les enquêteurs du service de la Sûreté du Québec, spécialisés dans les crimes liés à l’exploitation sexuelle des enfants sur Internet, ont arrêté Bruce Patterson, 64 ans, de Grenville-sur-la-Rouge au Qué- bec. L’arrestation a eu lieu le 25 mai et M. Patterson a comparu au palais de justice à Saint-Jérôme le lendemain, pour une com- parution préliminaire. Lors de l’arrestation, la police a effectué une perquisition au domicile de Bruce Pat- terson et a saisi du matériel informatique en vue d’une analyse cybernétique. Patterson fait face à plusieurs chefs d’accusation à la suite de l’enquête policière menée jusqu’à présent. Il est notamment accusé d’avoir produit de la pornographie juvénile, d’avoir obtenu des services sexuels contre rémunération de la part d’une per- sonne âgée de moins de 18 ans et d’inci- tation à des contacts sexuels. Une note d’information de la Sûreté du Québec à l’intention des médias indique que l’enquête se poursuit. Toute personne ayant des informations pouvant aider la police peut contacter la Sûreté du Québec au 1-800-659-4264. Le public est également invité à signa- ler toute situation d’exploitation sexuelle de jeunes sur Internet à l’adresse www. cyberaide.ca.
