King's Business - 1950-11

was at enmity with the sheep. He knew it would suffer loss with no gain if it were left alone in the mountains. He went after it until He found it. He would not give it up until it was safe in the fold. This is an allegory describing His love for lost men who need His protec tion, His preservation, and His provi sion. He is the Giver. All others are rob bers. THE HOLY SPIRIT DESIRED HIS COIN Luke 15:9 The woman in this parable is prob ably a picture of the Holy Spirit in His desire to put back into circulation that one who has been hidden away under the bed or under the bushel or in some ob scure place. The coin was just as valua ble when lost but was not so useful. So the Spirit of God seeks out the people of God who are losing their lives in human affairs and seeks to bring them into circulation for Him. He desires to use the Christian in a way that will glorify Christ and bring blessing to many. We rejoice when He does it. THE FATHER DESIRED HIS SON Luke 15:23 The father had a deep longing to have his son that he might love him, enjoy him, and have fellowship with him. There was a gulf for a while between the father and his son. The father waited and watched until the gulf was removed and the boy was back for the festivity. So God calls us into His fellowship. He wants to hear our voice in praise and worship. He seeks worshipers who will love and trust Him: those who will walk with Him and His blessed Son. THE TRINITY DESIRES TO HAVE US Psa. 50:5 It is the desire of each of the three Persons of the Godhead that the believ ers shall grow in grace and in useful ness. They plan for the people of God tc develop in the knowledge of God and in the service of the King. They long for believers to be made as near like Christ as it is possible for a redeemed sinner to be. It is their plan and pur pose to mold and make us, to teach and train us, until we come into the full stat ure that Christ desires. So the Word of God attracts our hearts to this goal. Dec. *17, 1950 HELP WANTED: APPLY TO THE BIBLE Isa. 1:18; Luke 9:37-42; John 14:1-6 God’s Word answers all questions per taining to eternal values. One evening I addressed a group of 63 spirit mediums. There were 59 women and 4 men pres ent. After giving a lesson from the Gos pel of John, I said to the audience that they might ask any question they desired regarding eternal values and eternal realities and that I would endeavor to answer them by quoting the answer from the Bible. There was no response. No

question was asked. Every inquiry of the human heart is answered fully in the Scriptures of truth. THE WORD OF GOD HELPS THE SOUL Isa. 1:18 God calls upon the people to reason the matter out with Him. He has had centuries of experience in dealing with men of every nature. He has solved every kind of problem in every kind of situa tion. We should be perfectly willing to take His advice and counsel for every need in our lives. We should want Him to instruct us in the way that we should go. We should look to Him expectantly for guidance in regard to the mysteries of life and the devious ways of living. He will blot out the sins if we come unto Him. THE WORD OF GOD HELPS THE LIFE Psa. 19:7 David said, “ Thou wilt shew me the path of life.” Life is filled with treacher ous pitfalls, snares and delusions. On every hand we find those who have been disillusioned, cheated, and who have be come brokenhearted. The Word of God reveals the plan and will of God and it is always the right way and the best way. We do not learn as much from his tory as we might. Reading the lives of great men will enable us to avoid many pitfalls. THE WORD OF GOD HELPS THE MIND Rom. 12:12 Our minds frequently lead us astray. We think matters over until our imag ination becomes fact. By this we are de ceived and led astray and fall into trou ble. The Spirit of God wants our minds. He will bring our thoughts into subjec tion to Christ. He will enable us to think God’s thoughts after Him. He will en able us to say, “ Thou hast kept me in perfect peace.” When thoughts are har nessed by the Spirit, then we are guided in paths of righteousness. THE WORD OF GOD HELPS OUR Christian ministry must be Spirit- centered for power, missionary-centered for purpose, Christ-centered for perfec tion, and Bible-centered for permanence. When these permeate our ministry, eter nal blessings follow. When these char acterize our living, abundant fruitful ness is assured. That labor which omits the Word of God will be largely chaff. That service which avoids the Scripture truths cannot expect God’s blessing. The Word of God should permeate and pene trate every detail of the life. Dec. 24, 1950 "BE BORN IN U S TODAY" Luke 2:8-20 The Word of God is very careful in its use of words. I believe in the verbal in spiration of the Scripture.
