Shredding Proteins Guide

Shredding Proteins: A Guide to Efficiently Cooking & Shredding Pork, Beef, and Chicken

Tools to Efficiently Shred Proteins There are two main tools to shredding proteins:

Shred by Hand Smaller processors and meat shops often opt to shred protein by hand, utilizing some form of forks or shredding claws, and a lot of man power. While being the cheapest up-front option, shredding by hand can become very costly, especially when you factor in labor and safety tools to keep your employees from injuring their hands, arms, or elbows. Use a Meat Shredding Machine Anything more than a few pounds each day, and you’ll want to invest in a meat shredding machine. These machines range in processing capacity of a few hundred to several thousand pounds of protein per hour, making them ideal for any size processor to reduce labor costs and efficiently shred protein. This method is ideal when only shredding a few pounds of protein each day.

If you can shred the product by hand using two forks, a meat shredding machine will work great.

The cost of a meat shredding machine varies depending on size and feature, but gives a solid return with the amount of protein able to be shredded.
