Optical Edge Teach Optical Edge Teach is a basic edge recognition calibration required by the M2 optical edge detector system. The optical edge teach calibration should be performed when lighting, magnification, lens or other system conditions
change. To perform the optical edge teach calibration: 1 Select the optical edge teach from the Probe menu.
Measure toolbar > Probe menu > Optical edge teach
2 The Optical Edge Teach wizard will display screens that guide users through the teach calibration process. Follow the on-screen instructions for positioning your optical crosshair sensor and performing the calibration.
3 At the completion of the teach calibration process a message will be displayed indicating success or failure.
Teach calibration failure
Successful teach calibration
After a successful optical teach calibration, the optical edge probes can be used to perform feature measurements. If the teach calibration process fails, confirm that the part is in focus, the part and stage are clean and that the lighting is appropriate and attempt the calibration process again. If the calibration failure persists, contact your system provider for assistance. NOTE Optical edge calibrations must be performed each time a new magnification is added to the system, the lens is replaced or the light source is changed. The calibrations are retained by the system for each optical magnification. Unless the lighting or optical lens is changed after the calibration, it is unnecessary to perform an optical edge calibration when the comparator magnification is changed during routine measurement activities.
