For Shabbat Morning I The Just Society

Our God and God of our ancestors, we thank You for teaching us how to save each other and ourselves, to give and to receive, and to support each other on life's journey. There is no limit to our ascent, for there is no limit to the goodness we can do. There is no joy we cannot have, for there is no end to giving. There is no height we cannot attain, for we were created to need each other's love and understanding. The doors of heaven are open to all. So let us share our blessings and enter in. In the past week we may have denied happiness to others and to ourselves, for selfishness lies in the way, and we can be enemies to our own happiness. Your Shabbat calls us back to the truth. We learn again the way to change hatred into love, and banish bitterness. We know again the strength for good that is in our grasp. We see again the purity of our souls, and Your image shining in us. Blessed are You God, who teaches us to serve each other. II The Community God, I come before You surrounded by the members of the community in which I live. I share my happiness with them and it becomes greater. I share my troubles with them and they seem smaller. May I never be too mean to give, nor too proud to receive, for in giving and receiving I discover You, and begin to understand the meaning of life. Let me not separate myself from the true strength of my community: the experience and wisdom of old people, the hopes of the young, and the examples of care and courage which sustain me. Give me an open heart and an open mind to welcome those who need me, and to receive Your presence in my daily life. I think of what we could be and the harmony and friendship that could unite us. I think of our loneliness and the friendship that could fill our lives. I think of the good that we could do if we were one in spirit. I know that this is Your will and pray for Your help. May I and those around me find our joy together, and bless You for the power You gave us to help each other.
