Prescribed Burns Program Naperville Park District users spring and fall prescribed ground- level burns across its system as an effective tool to clear the landscape of invasive weeds and restore the area to make it habitable to native vegetation. Trained and certified staff oversee this initiative that is a permitted activity through the IEPA and Naperville Fire Department. Learn more: napervilleparks.org/ PrescribedBurns . Operation Disrupt Operation Disrupt is a program coordinated by the Naperville Park District and other local and regional organizations to address the growing epidemic of young adult suicide. Operation Disrupt signs, which display the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline information and website, can be found in various park locations; the goal is to provide critical assistance to individuals in distress. River and Pond Safety The DuPage River and area ponds can be important resources for recreation enjoyment. However, be sure to practice care and caution whenever recreating in or near a water source. In times of flooding and during the seasonal freeze/thaw process, stay away from ponds, streams, and rivers as their unpredictability can be dangerous.

Rainout Line ensures that critical information like weather cancellations is more consistent, accurate and as up-to-date as possible across all of our communications. GENERAL WEATHER-RELATED PROGRAM CANCELLATION PROCEDURES In most instances, the Naperville Park District will not cancel activities based upon a weather forecast. Weather and facility conditions will be considered when determining the cancellation of modification of an activity. A list of the guidelines can be found at: napervilleparks.org/WeatherCancellationGuidelinesforActivities. Activities may be cancelled at any time subject to the discretion of the Executive Director. However, participants and parents of participants have the ultimate responsibility to make decisions regarding participation in an activity based on weather conditions. LIGHTNING WARNING SYSTEM Naperville Park District uses a lightning warning system in many parks. The signal is activated by threatening weather. You will hear a repeating horn-siren-horn-siren audible warning and see a flashing light on top of the device. When the warning signal activates, all activities must be suspended and patrons must SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY. Once the threat of lightning has passed, you will hear an intermittent horn with brief pauses between each signal. The flashing light on top of the device also will turn off. This indicates that activities can resume. This system is not fail-proof. Take shelter immediately when lightning threatens, even if a signal has not sounded.
