■ Conversely, Nuffield Health (-2 – see interview, page 50), Anytime Fitness (-1), Bannatyne (-1 – see interview, page 78) and énergie Fitness (-1) have each seen a slight reduction in number of clubs. ■ The top 10 operators remain unchanged from 2024, with no shifts in ranking.

■ PureGym, the UK’s largest fitness operator, has added 43 clubs since our 2024 report – the most significant growth of any operator in the sector. ■ Other top 10 operators with net growth in their estates over the last 12 months are The Gym Group (+10), Snap Fitness (+7), JD Gyms (+4), David Lloyd Clubs (+3) and Everlast Gyms (+2).

Market shares: Top 10 operators

■ The top 10 operators account for 30% of all private sector clubs, but over 62% of total private sector membership and almost 60% of private sector market value. ■ In the last 12 months, these 10 operators have increased their combined club count by a net total of 64 clubs (+4.7%). ■ Combined membership for the top 10 operators has grown by more than 230,000, rising from 4.56 million in 2024 to 4.79 million in 2025. ■ The combined value of the top 10 operators is up by an impressive £315m, growing from £2.58bn in 2024 to £2.9bn in 2025. ■ Among the top 10 operators are three prominent low-cost brands – PureGym, The Gym Group and JD Gyms (see interview, page 62) – and three major franchise operators: Anytime Fitness, énergie Fitness and Snap Fitness. ■ Between them, the top 10 operators have opened 76 brand new clubs since our 2024 report.

■ JD Gyms (see interview, page 62), PureGym and The Gym Group all charge under £27.50 a month on average, with almost 60% of clubs across both PureGym and The Gym Group estates still priced below £25 a month. ■ David Lloyd Clubs has the highest average monthly membership fee (over £165), followed by Nuffield Health (see interview, page 50) at around £95. ■ Of note, among the top three operators, PureGym’s average fee has risen by 2.5% since 2024. The Gym Group’s has increased by 5.2% and Anytime Fitness’s by 5%.
