What if your body had a way to heal without surgery, and you could free yourself from
be injected for trigger points or joint injections instead of the conventional doctor’s office injecting steroids, which have limitations to use and negative sequela. A promising and safe option to help your joints is to use PRP (platelet-rich plasma), which is obtained by your own site blood draw and contains growth factors and nutrients. Other options include A2M, which can halt the progression of arthritis, and stem cells, which have immense potential to help repair and heal joints, injuries, and ailments.
symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, and daily pain? We can help you with that. Regenerative medicine provides your body with natural tools to treat the root causes of everything from strains to inflammation. Focused on non-pharmacological injections to give joints and tendons the healing factors necessary for the body to reduce pain and inflammation. Physician Assistant Gloria Peterson at Foundations has just that in mind for you. Ever since kindergarten, I knew I wanted to help people heal. Leading up to college, as I explored different facets of healthcare, I kept reaching the same conclusion: That people weren’t getting better. When I became a physician’s assistant in family practice, I loved the relationship I built with patients, helping them live healthier lives. Year by year, I became more aware of a different approach to medicine that didn’t just seek to mask or treat patients’ symptoms, but honed in on the root cause of their problems. The more I learned, the more I discovered that conventional and corporate healthcare was focused on treating symptoms with medications instead of helping the body do what it’s capable of: healing and being healthy. When I became aware of the root cause approach at Foundations Health, I knew it would be a great opportunity for me to provide an integrative approach. As a regenerative medicine provider, I witness amazing patient wins almost daily. Blending conventional standards of care and testing with powerful regenerative treatments like stem cell injections and platelet-rich plasma (PRP), I’ve seen people regain mobility, reduce chronic pain, and meet their health goals in ways they never imagined.
Regenerative treatments can improve your conditions and quality of life in the short term while preventing costly and painful surgeries. They can mean fewer specialty appointments, fewer co-pays, and a big reduction in time and travel. By using regenerative medicine, patients can sometimes cancel hip, knee, and foot surgery, and more importantly, find reduced pain and increased function. Thanks to these treatments, I’ve helped people who use their hands for a living and avoided months of recovery time away from work. At Foundations, we think and test outside the box to provide healthcare uniquely catered to every individual. When you meet with me, I’ll spend time learning about your life to offer holistic approaches to your well-being. I like to meet patients where they’re at, looking at the full spectrum of their needs and health goals. I’ll always provide resources, like books or podcasts, to help you continue taking daily steps, such as proper nutrition. I had to discover and learn about an integrated healthcare method on my own, but I don’t think there should be gatekeepers on the power of regenerative medicine anymore. If you’re interested in learning about the importance of diet, movement, and incorporating physical therapy to help the body regain improved mobility and strength, come schedule an appointment at Foundations Health. We believe in what we do because we see it change people’s lives every day.

AND WHY IT DISAPPEARED The Simpson’s Real-Life Dream Home
Imagine owning the Simpson’s house, the one belonging to Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie, in real life — pink walls, orange couch, and all. In 1997, Fox Broadcasting Company partnered with Pepsi to make this a reality and built a full-scale replica of 742 Evergreen Terrace. The two companies intended to make one lucky fan’s dreams come true, but things didn’t go as planned.
After completing the home, Fox opened it for tours as part of a promotional campaign for “The Simpsons” merchandise. Over 500,000 people visited the house in just four months, but that wasn’t the end of the story. The grand prize nobody took. While the home was open for tours, Fox and Pepsi held a sweepstakes to give it away. Fans entered by collecting numbered game pieces from select Pepsi products. During the 1997 fall premiere of the show, the winning number was flashed on the screen, but no one came forward to collect the prize. So, they later chose the winner via a random raffle of forms consumers submitted by mail. The winner was 63-year-old Barbara Howard of Richmond, Kentucky. But Howard didn’t want the house. Instead, she accepted a $75,000 cash prize offered as an alternative, which sealed the fate of the real-life Simpsons house.
Bringing Springfield to the real world. De-fictionalizing a home from a famous cartoon is no
small feat. Fox and Pepsi hired Kaufman and Broad homebuilders to build the house in Henderson, Nevada, and they overlooked no detail. They replicated everything, from the layout and interior design to Bart’s treehouse, to bring the home to life. The builders also included hidden gems throughout the house, including Duff beer in the fridge and a bowl for Snowball II in the kitchen.
After the contest, the home underwent a total makeover to blend in with all the others in the surrounding housing development. Today, it still stands, but you’d never guess it was once the perfect replica of America’s favorite cartoon house.
The builders pored over hours and hours of “The Simpsons” episodes to get the layout right while making the home livable for actual people.
Why Stress Might Be Blocking Your Progress The Silent Strain In today’s fast-paced world, stress can pop up anywhere, affecting far more than your mood and mental well-being. Anxiety can hinder every system in your body, from the respiratory system to your heart health. You could be doing everything perfectly with your diet and exercise routines, but you won’t see results if your stress levels are out of control. From heightened cortisol levels to chronic headaches, this month we’re exploring the mind-body connection and how stress can impact your physical wellness. How Stress Shows Up While the human body can handle regular or infrequent bouts of stress, chronic anxiety starts to take a toll over time. It causes your body to go into a state of fight or flight, prompting your internal systems to go into overdrive. Some of the most common physical effects of stress include headaches, muscle tension, chest pain, fatigue, stomach issues, insomnia, and a weakened immune system, which struggles to fight off infections. Cortisol, the stress hormone, contributes to inflammation, higher blood pressure, and many of the other health problems you can face if you’re dealing with prolonged stress. Stress Less, Live More Your mental and physical health are connected, and when you don’t take care of your mind, your body suffers. There are small steps you take that will have
significant impacts on your overall well-being. Sleep is imperative in combating unease, staying sharp, and giving your body the time to recharge. You can create a better sleep routine by turning off any devices at least an hour before bed, doing relaxing activities like light yoga or reading a book, and dimming the lights to signal it’s time for rest. Movement is another powerful tool to quiet your heart and mind. Ensure you exercise regularly, following a safe and effective routine for your specific needs. Aim to work out most days of the week. Even 20–30 minutes of physical activity can reduce stress levels. At Foundations Health and Physical Medicine, we believe in healing from the inside out. Simple Stretches to Undo Desk Job Damage
For many of us, sitting for hours in front of a computer screen is just part of the job, but it can take a toll on our bodies. From tightness in your hips to lower back pain, being seated all day can lead to various physical problems and pain. Thankfully, simple exercises can help undo the effects of a sedentary work week, and it only takes a little time every day.
SHOULDER ROLLS As we type at the computer, we can
hold a lot of tension in our neck and shoulders, which can cause discomfort and restrict blood flow. Shoulder rolls are an easy, low-
impact exercise that can release that tension and encourage better posture. Stand up straight with your shoulders back and shrug them towards your ears. Rotate your shoulders back down and forward in circular motions. Do this for about 10–30 seconds in both directions. Forward Folds Prolonged sitting puts a lot of pressure on your spine and back, especially if you are slouching over your computer. Forward folds help stretch your back muscles and provide relief if you’re experiencing lower back pain. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and bend your knees slightly. Raise your arms above your head and slowly bend forward at your hips. Bring your hands as close to your feet as possible, without forcing yourself. Lean into the balls of your feet and let your head and shoulders hang. Stay in this position for 10–15 seconds. SQUATS Squats are an effective way to strengthen your glutes, hips, and legs — all areas that feel the impact of sitting through an entire shift. Stand with your feet shoulder- width apart and lower your body like you are preparing to sit down. Form is the most important aspect of squats, so make sure your back stays straight and your knees are above your toes. Push back up from your heels, activating your glutes and thighs. If you have an office job where you have to sit most of the day, it’s essential to take a little time each week to strengthen your muscles. A Fresh Look at a Familiar Bird
LITTLE BIRDS, BIG DISCOVERIES
ARE HUMMINGBIRDS ACTUALLY SOLITARY ANIMALS?
If you’ve ever set up a hummingbird feeder in your yard or even seen one zoom through your garden, you know how independent they are. Hummingbirds usually fly solo and fiercely guard their feeding spots and potential mates from each other. However, a recent discovery challenges what we thought we knew about these tiny birds — some may be more social than we assumed. A SURPRISING DISCOVERY Ornithologist Gustavo Canas-Valle recently found multiple hummingbird nests grouped together in the same area in Ecuador’s High Andes. Researchers previously attributed this unique behavior, which had never been documented in hummingbirds, to the freezing temperatures at more than 12,000 feet. However, they’ve found several more groups of hummingbirds roosting and nesting together in the surrounding region, suggesting they choose to live together. Despite the observations, other scientists feel it’s too quick to label hummingbirds as social animals. Charles Brown, a University of Tulsa behavioral ecologist, argues that cohesive social groups work together to
help each other, which they did not observe in this case.
Canas-Valle admits that more research will determine whether the birds simply tolerate one another due to environmental conditions or actively cooperate as a group. However, his initial observations suggest group collaboration already exists, and he expects to find other hummingbird species engaged in the same activities.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR HUMMINGBIRD RESEARCH This discovery challenges long-held beliefs about hummingbird behavior. It remains to be seen whether hummingbird nesting habits are more flexible than we initially thought or if the behavior is unique to particular species or regions. Researchers now have a new avenue to explore, and future studies will hopefully shed additional light on whether hummingbird nesting is a survival strategy or a one-off quirk. Either way, findings like these are a reminder of how surprising nature can be.
