Treat yourself to some winter sunshine, as we head to Italy’s Cote d’Azur and experience Italian hospitality, while enjoying the tour highlight of the magnificent Menton Lemon Festival.
HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS Lake Maggiore | Lake Orta | Borromean Islands | Lake Maggiore Express | Macugnaga DAY ONE – Travel to Germany We depart from your home pick-up and travel south to Dover for our crossing over to Calais and continue to overnight hotel in Germany – please note late arrival at hotel. DAY TWO – Arrival at Lake Maggiore, Italy After an early breakfast we depart our hotel and continue our journey to Lake Maggiore and our hotel, time to relax before dinner this evening. DAY THREE – Lake Orta Today we explore Lake Orta and one of northern Italy’s best kept secrets, its capital, Orta San Giulio, which has a delightful medieval centre full of cobbled streets, galleries, local crafts, and cafés. For anyone wishing to do so, a boat trip could be taken over to Isola San Giulio to visit the picturesque monastery. DAY FOUR – Borromean Islands We enjoy a leisurely day visiting the stunning Borromean Islands, located just offshore from the centre of Stresa. We can take the boat out to Isola Bella, which houses a beautiful stately home and elegant Italianate gardens, before we continue by boat to Isola dei Pescatori (Fishermen’s Island), the only island which is currently inhabited. DAY FIVE – Lake Maggiore Express Today we enjoy a wonderful full day excursion with a scenic train journey, taking in the full beauty of this spectacular region along the way. We join our train and travel from Stresa to Domodossola, at which point we change onto the scenic high-level railway, the Centovallie, which takes us through the mountains and down to Locarno, a bustling town on the Swiss shores of Lake Maggiore. We’ll then travel back to the hotel with some wonderful memories of our day. DAY SIX – Macugnaga Today we enjoy a leisurely day out, heading to the charming Alpine village of Macugnaga at the foot of Monte Rosa, Europe’s second- highest mountain. After a scenic drive, we arrive to find narrow streets, cosy eateries, and stunning views. Known for its winter sports and traditional charm, Macugnaga also offers a few small museums for the curious. Fresh mountain air and beautiful scenery make this a relaxing finale to our holiday.
DAY SEVEN – Travel to Germany This morning we bid farewell to our host and begin our return journey into Germany and our overnight hotel. DAY EIGHT – Departure We continue our homeward journey to Calais and our crossing to Dover.
HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS Menton Lemon festival | Alassio | San Remo | Albenga DAY ONE – Travel to Germany We depart from your selected pick-up point and travel south for your crossing from Dover to Calais and our overnight hotel, we’ll settle in and enjoy a welcome drink served at the table at dinner. DAY TWO – Arrival at Alassio After breakfast we continue our journey through France and into Italy and our hotel Toscana Hotel, where we will stay for the next 5 nights. Enjoy a welcome drink on arrival and settle in before dinner this evening. DAY THREE – At leisure in Alassio You’ll have a day at leisure in Alassio to soak up the atmosphere, explore the old town and perhaps take a stroll along the famous Promenade des Anglais. You can also explore the bustling streets or enjoy a drink in one of the many bars and cafes. DAY FOUR – Menton Lemon Festival After breakfast, we take a scenic coastal drive to the charming town of Menton on the French Riviera. Stroll through its pretty streets lined with shops, markets, and cafés, and admire the giant citrus sculptures in the Jardins Biovès. Then it’s time for the Fête du Citron – the Lemon Festival, where over 145 tonnes of citrus fruit create stunning displays. We finish the day in the grandstand on the Promenade to enjoy the lively parade of floats, music, and dancing. DAY FIVE – San Remo This morning, we visit nearby San Remo, known as ‘The Pearl of the Riviera’ for its grand villas and timeless charm. Stroll around the old harbour, explore elegant boulevards like Corso degli Inglesi, and admire highlights such as the Santa Tecla Fort, Art Nouveau casino, and medieval old town. Nature lovers can enjoy the Giardini Nobel and Villa Ormond gardens. We then return to the hotel to relax before dinner. DAY SIX – Albenga Today, we visit Albenga, a historic Ligurian town rich in history, nature, and gastronomy. Dating back to Roman times, its skyline is marked by impressive towers, while highlights include the Roman amphitheatre, medieval Cathedral, and Albenga Diocese Museum with the Paleochristian Baptistery. Stroll through the charming historic centre and sample local delights like wine, olive oil, and fresh vegetables that make Albenga a culinary treasure. After exploring, we return to our hotel for a relaxing evening and dinner.
DAY SEVEN – Travel to Germany This morning after breakfast we bid farewell to our host and begin our return journey into Germany, retracing our steps back through France to our overnight hotel in Saarbrücken Süd, dinner in hotel this evening. DAY EIGHT – Departure We continue our journey to Calais and our crossing to Dover.
