DELIGHTFUL DURHAM DALES AND BEAMISH The beauty of the Durham Dales offers a nice contrast with the historic city of Durham on this tour. The region has lots to offer no matter what time of year you visit with its stunning scenery, castles and Cathedrals, museums and more. We also include a visit to the amazing Beamish Open-Air Museum. HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS Beamish Open Air Museum | Barnard Castle | Durham | Bowes Museum DAY ONE – Arrival We depart from your home and travel to Durham arriving late afternoon you will have time to relax before dinner this evening. DAY TWO – Beamish North of England Open Air Museum Today we visit the famous Beamish North of England Open Air Museum, capturing the spirit of the North East in the 1800s and 1900s. Attractions include a restored tram and replica bus rides, an authentic town street, a colliery village, a trip down the mine, an old- fashioned sweet shop, a working farm, steam locomotives, and much more. From here we make our way back to the hotel. DAY THREE – Durham This morning we travel to the ancient and historic city of Durham. Acclaimed as a World Heritage Site, it is dominated by the magnificent Norman Cathedral and Castle, high above the River Wear. There is time to explore the city with its labyrinth of little streets and alleyways, or you may fancy a stroll by the river. Later in the afternoon we leave Durham and return to the hotel. DAY FOUR – Barnard Castle and Bowes Museum Leaving after breakfast, we begin our day with a drive to the market town of Barnard Castle. You can see where Dickens immortalised ‘Dothboys Hall’, take a look at Cromwell’s refuge, browse around the antique shops, or visit the castle itself, high above the Tees. We then head to Bowes Museum, located just outside the town. Set in a majestic French-style chateau, the museum opened in 1892 and will amaze you with its superb collection of art including the beautiful Silver Swan automaton. DAY FIVE – Departure After breakfast we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.

DAY TWO – Harrogate Today we have chance to explore the attractive Spa town of Harrogate. There are acres of immaculate gardens and a wonderful range of quality shops and tearooms. Take a stroll through delightful Valley Gardens and relax with a drink. DAY THREE – York River Cruise and York Minster We take you to the historic City of York where we have two superb, included attractions. During the day we have a visit to the magnificent York Minster and, as a complete contrast, a cruise on the River Ouse. The city offers much more, the National Railway Museum is a must, or you may choose a stroll around the City Walls, explore the excellent shopping streets including the famous Shambles. DAY FOUR – Harewood House and Black Sheep Brewery After breakfast we travel to stunning Harewood House, one of the outstanding Treasure Houses of Britain, with lavish interiors and furnishings and marvellous examples of fine art. Harewood is a Royal Residence – Princes Mary lived here until her death in 1965, and her memorabilia is on show. From here we continue our way to Masham where we enjoy a guided tour of the famous Black Sheep Brewery. Later we make our way back to the hotel for our final night. DAY FIVE – Departure After breakfast this morning we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.

DAY TWO – Settle and Carlisle Railway, Hawes and Ripton We start with a visit to Settle, a charming North Yorkshire market town, followed by a scenic ride on the Settle and Carlisle Railway, crossing the famous Ribblehead Viaduct to Kirkby Stephen. Afterward, we head to Hawes in Wensleydale for lunch, then continue through Leyburn to Ripon. Here, we visit the stunning Cathedral and explore the large market square before heading back. DAY THREE – Skipton, Haworth and The ‘Railway Children’ Line Today we travel to Skipton, known as the ‘Gateway to the Dales.’ Explore the market town and Skipton Castle, then enjoy a river cruise on the renowned inland waterways. Next, we visit Haworth, home of the Brontë sisters, and take a steam train ride along the scenic Worth Valley, made famous by ‘The Railway Children.’ We return to the hotel in time for a drink before dinner. DAY FOUR – Bolton Abbey Today, we begin with a visit to Bolton Abbey, set alongside the River Wharfe in a tranquil and scenic location. After a stroll through the area, we take a steam train ride from Bolton Abbey station to Embsay. We then visit the charming village of Grassington, with its cobbled streets and quaint alleys. After some free time to explore, we return to the hotel for our final night. DAY FIVE – Departure After breakfast, we leave Yorkshire and begin our journey home.
