DAY TWO – Eastbourne A relaxing day in Eastbourne to settle in and explore the town at your own pace. Stroll along the seafront, visit the pier, or wander through the lovely gardens. You can also check out the local shops, cafes, and galleries, or simply enjoy the coastal atmosphere. DAY THREE – Lewes and Alfriston This morning we head to Lewes, a charming county town in rural Sussex, known for its medieval streets, old churches, and narrow alleys called “twittens.” The town is dominated by the remains of a Norman castle and features Anne of Cleves’ historic townhouse. You’ll have time to visit Lewes Castle and Museum for stunning views, and explore the Needlemakers, a building steeped in industrial history. On our return to Eastbourne, we’ll stop in Alfriston, with its quaint streets and historic charm. DAY FOUR – Rye and Hastings Today we visit Rye, a town rich in history. Explore the Rye Heritage Centre with its vintage scale model and light show, then visit the Rye Castle Museum, featuring an 18th-century fire engine and displays on the town’s shipbuilding past. Don’t miss the Ypres Tower, built in 1249, offering views across the marsh and a glimpse into Rye’s history as a fort, prison, and museum. We’ll then head to Hastings, home to William the Conqueror’s first castle and a charming Old Town. DAY FIVE – Departure After breakfast this morning we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.

DAY TWO – Southend-on-Sea and Prittlewell Priory This morning, we visit Prittlewell Priory in Southend’s Priory Park, a 12th-century Cluniac Monastery with exhibitions on its history, including its time as a home to monks, Tudor owners, and the Victorian Scratton family. Enjoy a stroll through the beautiful walled gardens and visit the gift shop at the Visitor Centre. The afternoon is free for you to explore Southend-on-Sea at your leisure. DAY THREE – Colchester Castle Museum and Constable Country Today, we visit Colchester, Britain’s first city, where we explore Colchester Castle Museum, Europe’s largest Norman Keep, with its fascinating collection of Roman and local history. We’ll also see the 17th-century prison used by the Witchfinder General. Next, we head to Dedham Vale, or Constable Country, known for its stunning landscapes that inspired artists like John Constable. Enjoy the picturesque village of Dedham, with its tea shops, craft centre, and the Munnings Art Museum, before returning to the hotel for the evening. DAY FOUR – Rochester – In the footsteps of Dickens Today we visit Rochester, a town rich in history and beloved by Charles Dickens, who spent his childhood here. We’ll explore Rochester Cathedral, England’s second oldest, founded in 604 and showcasing stunning Norman architecture, including its Romanesque facade and parts of the crypt. Afterward, enjoy free time to explore the town and visit locations featured in Dickens’ stories. Admire the Grade 1 listed Clevedon Pier, enjoy the views over the Bristol Channel, and take time to stroll through the ornamental gardens or relax on the Promenade. In the afternoon, we visit Oakham Treasures, a nostalgic museum with a fascinating collection of vintage toys, memorabilia, and classic advertisements. DAY THREE – Wells Today the day is yours to enjoy Wells. You might like to visit the Cathedral, built between 1175 and 1490 Wells Cathedral has been described as “the most poetic of the English Cathedrals”. Or perhaps The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens, home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for over 800 years and this stunning medieval palace, which is now open to the public, with free guided walks, and the Bishop’s Table café for you to enjoy refreshments.
