HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS Guided tour of the Scottish Solway Firth | Hutton-In-The-Forest | Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate | Gretna Green | Carlisle | Moffat DAY ONE – Arrival We depart from your home and travel to Southern Scotland arriving late afternoon you will have time to relax before dinner this evening. DAY TWO – Scottish Solway Firth Guided Tour The Solway Plains offer a journey through stunning coastal landscapes and rich history. Our guide shares stories of Solway migration, Titanic links, WWII aircraft production, and more. Spanning Dumfries & Galloway and England, the Solway Firth is a Special Area of Conservation with dunes, salt marshes, and scenic beaches like Rockcliffe and Balcary Bay. Nature reserves such as Caerlaverock host thousands of wintering geese, while charming villages like Hutton-in-the-Forest, on the northern edge of the Lake District, is a historic house with stunning architecture, gardens, and woodlands shaped over centuries. Its 17th-century gardens retain elements from the 1705 Kip Engraving. Later, we visit Carlisle for free time before returning to our hotel for dinner. DAY FOUR – Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate and Moffat Today we head for Drumlanrig Castle – a magnificent ‘Pink Palace’ containing a world class art collection and surrounded by stunning Victorian gardens. Don’t miss the 183m Long Terrace Walk and the restored Victorian glasshouses and Rock Garden. We’ll also visit Moffat, nestling in the heart of Southern Scotland, it’s a bustling town offering you’re the warmest of Scottish welcomes. DAY FIVE – Departure After breakfast this morning we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route. Kirkcudbright and Wigtown add to the region’s appeal. DAY THREE – Doune Castle and Stirling Smith Art Gallery & Museum This morning, we visit Doune Castle, the former home of Regent Albany and a popular filming location for Monty Python, Game of Thrones, and Outlander. Explore its medieval great hall, kitchen, and battlements with stunning views of the River Teith and Menteith Hills. Next, we head to Stirling for free time before visiting the Smith Art Gallery and Museum, home to over 40,000 objects celebrating Stirling’s rich heritage. We then return to our hotel for dinner. DAY FOUR – Rosslyn Chapel and Edinburgh This morning, we visit the mystical Rosslyn Chapel, renowned for its intricate carvings and rich history. DAY TWO – Poolewe and Inverewe Garden & Estate A short ride from our hotel takes us to Poolewe and Inverewe Garden and Estate. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, exotic plants like Wollemi pines and Himalayan poppies thrive here. The estate is a wildlife haven, with a hide overlooking Loch Ewe. At its heart, Inverewe House features a unique museum and the Sawyer Gallery’s exhibitions. DAY THREE – Plockton, Eilean Donan Castle and The Isle of Skye This morning, we head south to Plockton, then visit the iconic Eilean Donan Castle, set at the meeting point of three sea lochs. After exploring the castle, we enjoy a scenic drive on the Isle of Skye. DAY FOUR – Gairloch Museum, Gairloch and Gairloch Glass Bottomed Boat Today, enjoy a 90-minute wildlife tour of Loch Gairloch, exploring its vibrant ecosystem. We also visit Gairloch Museum, located in a converted bunker, with exhibits on local history, culture, and wildlife. After free time in Gairloch, we return to the hotel. DAY FIVE – Russian Convoys Museum, Carrieshalloch Gorge and Ullapool Today, we travel the North Coast 500, visiting the Russian Arctic Convoy Exhibition, Carrieshalloch Gorge, and the fishing town of Ullapool on Loch Broom. Enjoy free time to explore Ullapool, try fresh fish and chips, or visit the Ullapool Museum.
DAY SIX – Departure After our breakfast, this morning we depart Gairloch and visit Aviemore, before continuing our journey home with comfort stops en route.
